Has anyone ever tried one of the Merc Chopper props,I'm not even sure if they will fit on a Bravo or Alpha. I see them on the large hp outboards all the time, just wondering.

Doug has a 26 chopper that will fit our propshafts... i've been meaning to run it but i've been told it won't perform well for us... also doug said they have a bad habit of tossing blades under super high load conditions.. i think he was running it on the hydrostream when he had it.

btw, doug has a 22 quad IV OT not a quad IV.. we discovered that last weekend...

What's the difference between the quads ?

quad IV OT has a small exhaust hub for an outboard case and is 14 3/4 diameter... i got 17% slip on the top end and 30 something in the midrange... she gave good top end speed - within 0.2 mph gps of the cleaver... didn't have a lot of lift to it. control was there but not as much as i would have liked

the quad IV has a full diameter exhaust hub and is 15 1/2 inches in diameter. i am 8 - 9% slip ACROSS the board... she lifts the boat WAY out of the water. i might give up a bit of top end speed (due to the torque required to spin the extra diameter, etc) with it but i really enjoy the midrange cruise and the control the prop gives.

Sam,

I'm currently running 3 different choppers on my X-18. The Merc chopper will fit my Volvo E Drive just fine. I did however send the 24,26,28 out to be cut down a quarter inch. So far they have tremendous bite and good top speed.

I spin the 24 at 6000+
I spin the 26 at 5600
I have yet to try the 28.

I got 74 on GPS with the 24 last weekend.

Chopper props work well on the E drive because it is a semi surfacing drive. Choppers work well in surface drive applications.
