I need to find a 270 "leg" to mount to a 270 transom assembly that is in place on the hull...

Question, I am under the impression that they came in 4 cyl, 6 cyl and V-8 configurations. (gear ratio's)

Which one (ratio) do I want to find for a 350 V-8?

What would the "sample" AQ number be for a 350 or similar leg from Volvo?

Any pitfalls with these other than the trim and era and props? ( I realize a Bravo would be nice but I am not in the mood to rebuild a transom right now. I have enough stuff around to do already and the motor in this boat does not have all the hydralics available)

Thanks as always... :D

I have the info on the gear ratios at home and will post tonight if nobody else has by then.

Lenny..
I think the 1.61:1 is the ratio you need.If memory serves me right I believe this was the 'tallest' gear they made ...

1-1.61 is the right gear for a V-8.

1.61 is whqat is in my Corsican=and ia the same as the 250-280 and 290. all the lowers will bolt on to the 270 upper I have don all of them at one time or another. trim is a very small issue nice but hardly earth shattering. My Corsican was 270 for 26 years, now a 290 upper with a 270 first than a 290 later, the origiona gears from the 270 went into the 290 bearings and all, uppers and lowers.

The last character in the serial number should be hand stamped B, C or D. Acording to Clymers the ratios are: B=1.61:1, C=1.89:1, D=2.15:1. These apply to the 250, 270 and 280 drives. They also show a 250A with a 1.35:1 ratio.

I agree that the 1.61:1 is the way to go with the V8. My 289/Volvo 200 has 1.59:1 and the 270 I picked up this spring was a 4 cyl with the 2.15:1 gears.

Hope this all helps.

How's the "Lenzi" project comming? Will it be a triple hatch?

Too many construction details.

...longer "double" hatch with same angle to the dangle as the stock 18's (newer) hatch. Was going great guns, then, I have to stop and build kitchens and stuff again to create more money for the next "great guns" run...and it goes on and on and on  There are 4- 18's in all, and all unfinished. I only have the driveline and Accon hardware to finish one of them.

As well, there is also a Formula Junior in the driveway requiring work, a 16 Ski Sporter and also a 21 showing up in about 4 weeks. eek! I have room for only 2 boats in the glass shop, 3 outside, one more under a covered roof, and the rest are in a rented "quonset"...

...my plate is full...

Thanks for the info...

lenny if your building one of those donzis for speed if you could get your hands on the 1.35:1 ratio that would be key for a big HP motor.

Broque has a really good point the 1:35 was an even stronger botton due to the extra gear contact surface with the larger pinion. And I feel it may help out with prop selection for high HP. The Bugga Boo is finding one!
