I just bought an 18' Donzi 2+3 which was manufactured in 1967. It is in excellent condition but is missing its tonneau cover. Did the original tonneau have a stripe down the middle or was it solid-colored?

I've seen both.
The cover I got from the infamous Jimbo Caffrey did not have the stripe down the middle, but I had it modified at the local upholstery shop to include one.
Retail, you should be paying around $300-350 for a cover.
Check with local canvas shops, you MAY be able to beat that. But unlikely.

My tonneau is the original made in 1970 by Bilt Rite. Although it has faded and 2 of the snaps have come off, it still does the job. When you consider that the boat has been trailered for 30 years with the tonneau on, you can't ask for a whole lot more. Check the supplier list elswhere on this board for Bilt Rite's number. They can make you a new one and ship it to you with the snaps not installed so that you can place them in the proper position for your boat. http://206.150.187.82/ubb/biggrin.gif

I had one made two years ago at a top shop out of sunbrella -- a light-weight fade-resistant, water-proof, miracle fabric of some kind. It came in a wide variety of colors and seems to be really cool stuff. It also folds up into a really small package when off the boat.

Mine is still tight and true and black and, if I remember correctly, it cost something less than $200.

Good luck!

Emmo,

What is the color scheme of the cover on your boat?

thanks for the mention gino...the tonneau looks great on the 007! tom, here's my story...i sent my original tonneau from my '69 2+3 to built-rite and had them make me another. i can't remember the cost but it looked/looks awesome. if i were to do it again however, i think that i would have an original style tonneau made from something like sunbrella b/c it breathes so much better. if you choose this option make SURE that you include the zipper down the middle....it looks sooo cool when you pull into a marina on a sunday morning to pick up a paper and you have the tonneau on but unzipped around the drivers seat.....just my opinion.

Well, my tonneau was yellow with a black stripe. After thirty years, it is something other than yellow, kind of butterscotch? I am partially red/green color blind, so my perception of the color may be slightly different. BTW, I have the proper Donzi logo on there now.
