In remedial terms, can anyone tell me the difference from an ignition standpoint between a standard rotation engine and a counter-rotating one?

As a brief background, some may recall that we imploded the starboard engine in our "new" Z-29 last October and elected to replace both with remanufactured (warrantied for 2 years!!) engines (carbureted 454's). We rebuilt the starters & alternators, new exhaust manifolds, replaced the "flippers" in the exhaust, new shafts in the Captain's Call, new impellers & water pumps. Remainder of parts were swapped from old engines (intakes, carbs, etc.)

Mechanic has everything hoooked up. Port engine cranked before it could turn over twice, ran perfect--no smoke, smooth, great oil pressure, low temp, no leaks.

Swaped water hose over to starbd engine and nothing. Turns over, timing light shows fire, gas is fine, but NOTHING. Not even a backfire. This is on the counter-rotating engine. He checked and re-checked the firing order and has now removed everything and hooked it all back up again to make sure he didn't miss anything.

Is the distributor different in the counter engine? What is he missing? It's going to be 72 degrees Saturday and I need a boating experience.
