I have found a real gem, It`s a 1986 18 2+3 red/white with a 300 Tempest small block/Alpha. Less than 300 orig hours and has been stored inside most of its life. What do you think is a fair price for this rig. I was following the 1984 on ebay, did it sell? and if so, how much did it bring? I see people with 20 + yr old 18`s looking for 14-15k but if you do your homework there are some showroom clean 2002 18 2+3`s that can be had for about 20k Why are these older boats priced so high when for anther 5 grand or so you can get a new boat.

The ebay 18 did sell, the seller confirmed it this morning. If I had to guess, I would say it sold for somewhere between $9500, and &10,000.
We need more info on the boat you're talking about, original gel, or paint, original interior, or re-done, fresh or salt water ?

This is a totally orig boat, never painted, very good condition. Orig red interior and a fresh water boat. I`m going to get some pics later today.

Why no other opinions? Is this an uninteresting topic?

It wouldn't be one located in southern Maine that is white with a red stripe in an old big barn in the back yard?

Kurt,
I would say low to mid teens would be a good price. Anything under 11,000 would be great!

Saw a restored 1965 '16 in the boattrader the other day. All original. He was only asking 32K. :)

Looped, no this one is from Mass. Where did you see the one in Maine listed?

I tried to hook up with the guy yesterday, homefully tomorrow. I`ll post pics when I get them.

Thanks for the replies.

Kurt.

I personally would have to say it would need to be in the LOW teens. There are too many newer faster 18s in the Mid teens.

Based on what I paid for Silver Streak (’88, 350 Mag Alpha, freshwater, 16.9 hours, matching tandem trailer) I would say less than 12k and you have a pretty good deal. :)

Incidentally, I tried to E-mail you at your profile address and it was kicked back.

My 1986 /350/ alhpa appraised @17,000 after the restoration, I paid $4200 for it. I hope that it is like old cars, and they will level out and hold there value. Aren't new ones in the $30,000 and up range?

James, yours is an isolated case. you have updated yours. For all intents and purposes it is a new boat. It is well worth it.

A old boat with all original running gear is not worth the same to me as as the the same year boat that has been reworked with new paint/gelcoat/drivetrain/upholstery/ and instrumentation.

Kurt,
The one I looked at was about 2 years ago from a guy that lived in South Boston and kept it up in southern Maine at his parents house. I think he was asking 8k or so....
