As you guys know I have zero boat knowledge. Why does everybody reference 70 MPH as their boats speed??? Is that the mark to hit with stock style boat??? It seams that every boat claims to be between 65-7MPH?? Is that like the 11 sec street car club?? What does a bone stock BB Donzi 22' run?? Thanks Brian

Ducati,
My stock Minx SBC hits 61 on GPS. I guess I'm one of the "slow" guys. On my river, 60 mph is hauling ass!
Don't get too hung up on speed, there's always someone faster.

My stock 22 Classic, BB 454(Carb), Bravo1 was at 65.7 GPS until I made a prop change at the suggestion of a certain GA contingent(68.7 GPS). Still not quite at 70, but getting closer.(I've heard salt water helps also, but my 22 is a fresh water boat except for the occasional gatherings held on the coasts) I used to own a 18 that topped out at 50 so I love my 22 for the speed factor. It's an addiction, but there is always someone faster. Learned that many years ago street racing.

My Magnum got up to 70mph once, but I was going downhill and had a tailwind. As they say, there is always someone faster.

If you want to feel more of the speed, get a smaller boat. A 16 can be "scary" fast your first time out!

The 70ph is dream goal to set your sights on with a 22 classic and 454 big block. Unfortunatly we all have different instruments that measure this. I use a Lowrance GPS, some use a Teleflex speedometer others use a Gafrig speedo etc. Unfortunatly somehow a mile per hour gets tacked on in one conversation and somehow becomes fact. I have a warmed over Corsican that I spent a tremendous amount of time to reach that 70 goal. The faster it got the harder it was to drive. I finally went back to a low mid 60's boat and love it. I do have a 22 Criterion with a blower that runs 80 mph but I have as much in the handling of that boat as in the engine of the little boat. Some of the newer boats are said to make that 70 goal, some do and some don't. My stock 18 Corsican with a H&M Ford Clevland ran about 55. My Stock 22 Criterion ran 57->61.

And little 16's like mine run upper 50's I guess if I were to put the 4 barrel setup on that I have and chop holes in the back to let the smoke out I might make 60. Me I am real happy cruising at 40.

I would compare the stock 22 world to 13 second cars and 70 is the mark!

Then there is the next step of affliction which could be compared to 11 second cars and 80+ is the mark! Speed measuring devices become suspect and top speeds increase on the bar stool.

My stance, show me what you got and then tell me how you did it!

This stuff is fun, but be careful, the slush fund can evaporate over night...
