Cool Scott! Are the wheels of the future turning towards 28'? How about finding a bench seat Hornet to add to the collection!

RH,
This one kinda fell into my lap. I really wasn't looking for one but it looks like it might become part of the collection. This boat is all there and never really messed with. It still needs work, but dont all Donzi in someway.

Ahhhh the Bench Seat Hornet. I found one...just have to get a hold of the guy. It will be mine sooner or later. He just doesn't know it yet.

Great news for you! I sure love the lines of my Hornet even though it has the back seat. I love the higher freeboard and shape. I still have a huge hankering for a bench seat model. Good luck wtih getting them both!

PS, I have a few pics from my run, I just need to get them posted when I rename the files.

I was in charge of building all of them. Can I help?

Wasn't there someone doing a restoration in FL?

I would love to know the progress and what power is being planned.

Allan,
I have a 1980 28' Blackfin Fisherman, it looks like the same hull as the Sportsman. Is it a clone?

Brownie,

Seems to me that Ed McMahon of Tonight Show fame had a 28ft.Do you remember which one and what color it was?Wouldnt it be something if Scott tracked that one down?Ive often thought it would be something to have that particular DONZI........Just.......ol red!

If I saw a transom with the words "Heeerrrrrreee's Johnny" on it, I would definity have to do a double take. eek!

As it stands right now I made the guy an offer. He said he had to talk with his wife. I'm going to give it till the weekend and then give him a call back. I will let you guys know what happens. Thanks Brownie, I will take you up on that offer as things progress.

Ted,

The Blackfin 28' is the old Cary 28' which is the old 008 Donzi raceboat, which is the bottom 80% of the 28' Sportsman Donzi. We loaned Ed and Johnny a 28' in return for flak. It worked well. Johnny hardly ever used it, but Ed ran the s#*t out of it. They mentioned it a lot. As I recall, we gave it to Bobby Weichbrodt of Venice Marine to sell. It was white with a blue stripe, I think.

does anybody know what happen to the molds for the 28? did performer buy them---their hull looked liked exact copy, just deck was changed.

The original molds were sold to Cabo Rico in Costa Rica in 1968. The Performer was a splash by Dick Ridgeway, unauthorized.

Hey scott, I got the pics you e-mailed last week I think after seeing the kickass job you did on your 18 that your the man to save the 28! So stop stalling. Falcon, im the one in FLA the boats gel work will be complete in august, im building the same motors that my hornet has 565 CI fords with 10-71 blowers I might try the BDS EFI setup im not sure. Its gonna take alot of HP to make this boat run in the 70s

what trannies are you going to use? i think the originals were 1.1: 1 turning small props--i bet those motors can turn bigger props if you have the clearance.

John,
I havent heard back from the guy. I would love to get the boat. Not sure if anyone besides us nuts would want to take such a big job on. I could get it between 6,000 and 7,000. Dont really want to pay that much. Like I said I really wasnt looking for a 28. But if its the right price I would be willing to take one on. Still looking for a bench seat Hornet. I would rather put my time into that instead of a 28.

Cathy loved the boat when she went to look at it with me for the 2nd time. If it was up to her we would have been bringing it home with us.

I will keep you all up to date on what happens.
