Mechanic's meeting !

Well I had my first meeting today with my mechanic in an effort to decide weather to repower or up grade my current motor(5.7 2brl) in my 96 16. Based on the criteria I had it looks like up grades are the way to go.
Criteria:
1.Reliabilty
2.Desired speed
3.Cost

I am looking to upgrade into the 300hp range, that way I can keep my gen II alpha. Based on that hp level I should be able to reach the 62-65 mph range, I think. Once I have the up grade paln I will post it so as to get a few opinions from you shrinking violets out there.
In the mean time just for kicks what kind of top end do "you" think I might expect from 300hp and a decent prop.

Ive said this before, im not sure if you saw the post but for about $3,000 you gan get a mercury 2speed tranmission. i read an article about this in a magazine a few years back. the boat they tested it on had a top speed of about 52mph and after the tranny, it was running 65mph.
