Geoo
Is that an Indy car or a Cart.
What does the engine weigh 200#
I'll bet she sounds sweet.
My 1 liter Ninja engine would hit the rev limiter at 12,800RPM

Given their lack of torque and the fact that they make all of their HP in the stratosphere, I would not recommend an Indy engine for a boat. After all, they are not Coast Guard approved http://206.150.187.82/ubb/biggrin.gif

I would think that Donzis are more akin to Formula 1 than to IRL. Curse Tony George and what his ego has done to Indycar racing. This dork has single-handedly destroyed the sport. Sure you have V8s now, but they are down on power and low tech...like anvils. Low tech chassis too. CART, which used to reign supreme, is now a playground for rich Brazilians. So watch the race Sunday, but realize the guys out there are not the best, nor is the equipment. Shouldn't be that way. Hell, America can put the world on-line, clone life, but we can't field competitive race cars and drivers. Duhhh.

Not bad if you want to "idle" out of the marina at 3000 rpm.

By the way guys...have you noticed that Raul Boesel has qualified for Indy at 222.113? That's good for Row 8, spot 24.
In case you don't know about him, he took 2nd place in the Miami Superboat race last month on the Tio Rose Cigarette.
I'm rooting for him.

George,
That looks like a great engine. However, asumming that you can "marinize" it, how are you going to cool the exhaust? and you would need to fresh water cool it, because that grade of cast aluminum would probably just about disolve in salt water. All that being said, those engines don't have an infinite life. As a matter of fact it's very short. I couldn't swear to it but I believe that it's only about 3000 miles. that's not between rebuilds that's the entire life of the engine!!! Since it's spinning so fast and so much stress is going on, after a certain number of hours the aluminum block and heads start to get microscopic fractures, which turn into bigger fractures. And then BA...BLAM. Sorry Geoo I don't mean to rain on your parade, I just hate to see go through all that work and money(probably mostly money)and only get a few hours out of it. But what Hell of a few hours it would be. Good luck.

Hey Guys I was only Joking, although the though did cross my mind along with a Turbine. I went to Indy last Saturday to watch a friend at Qualifing. He made second row. 4th or 5th position. I have other photo's attached to the bottom of that engine page.
My engine is still at the shop. GEOO

Hey GEOO Where do the springs go on the donzi?

GEOO

Frank, I hope the engine goes to the Dyno the first week of June. What new with your ride!!! Did you find the right prop!!

Bertram Boy, Not to worry. She'll have only a little less power then that Indy engine. It may be enough to run in the low 90's. I will start testing with a 25 pitch four blade with 1.33 ratio, redline @ 6000rpm. . GEOO

George,
How about some specs on the real engine?

Bertram Boy,
The Computer Desk Top Dyno says 620hp @ 6000 rpm @ 564tq @ 5100rpm. This should wake the X-18 up a little!!!! YEH HAAH!!! GEOO

GEOO- I like the turbine idea. Vince Granatelli probably still has some Pratt-Whitney ST6's lying around somewhere. Do you have room for a reduction gearbox? Finding the right prop for a 40,000 rpm motor could be tuff http://206.150.187.82/ubb/biggrin.gif

Geo
The boat is great! My wife is worst then I am. We pull up next to a Baja Outlaw, Get to his top speed around 60-65, Play with them for a while? Make that Baja feel like he is King Crap, Then we make him feel like crap? When we mash the hammer down and cook his baja! George when ever your ready Come on down and take a ride. The boat runs so good from 45 to the upper 70s is like a pocket rocket. I cant believe the H/P that procharger delivers, without doing any other work. I picked up a 15x25x30 pitch factory finished Bravo 1. Loves Gasoline Now more then ever!
