I FINALLY have my engine back!!! http://206.150.187.82/ubb/biggrin.gif It's a 350 4 bolt, bored .060 over, and uses a Scat 400 crank for a total of 388 cu. in. This time I also added a full solid roller camshaft (.540 lift, 305 dur.) and GM's aluminum Fast Burn heads. Because the heads use a raised D-cup (ummm!) exhaust port, I had to port match the Stainless Marine exhaust manifolds. (6 of eight ports are done, 2 to go.) I still need a new solenoid, and carburator linkage holder plate before I can drop it in. I may have it done this weekend, but am not in a hurry, as I just bought another boat. (1986 Supra Comp TS6m - tournament inboard ski boat) "SAAAWEEET!!" Now when I restore my Donzi, I can ease the pain by using my other unit. If I can find the digital camera cable, I'll post some pics of the new engine..... Just thought I'd let you guys know. Also, yes, I have "Long Tube" Stainless risers which allow me to run a radical cam without worrying about reversion, and fresh water cooling.

Jamesbon,
Sounds like you have one killer motor, Big CAM, What RPM will you run it?. My motor is at the shop getting balanced. Keep us posted on your first run. GEOO

Geoo, Yeah it should be healthy. I don't plan to take it above 5k, I want this one to stay together for a while. I used to run a 14.5x21 stainless with the last 355, but the tach. never worked, so I'm not sure where I was. I now have a 15x24 Nibral which I've never tested on this boat. I think that should be a good starting point. I also will install the new tach., and rev limiter before I even start this thing to break it in.

Geoo,
Are you disclosing the secrets which hide in your Rocket Block? That thing should be interesting!!

Jamesbon,
Rocket Block Tall Deck, 434ci, AFR Heads 2.08/1.60 valves, 232cc runners CNC ported (flow a little over 300); Solid roller cam 255/262 dur @ .05; .613/.627 lift. CR10:1, the MPI off my 383 (Cutler). 6.125" Rods. If all goes well she'll go to the dyno by the end of the month. Computer says 620hp @ 6000 rpm @ 564tq @ 5100rpm. I think it will dyno around 550hp?? This should wake the X-18 up a little!!!! YEH HAAH!!! GEOO

Jamesbon,

305 seems like a lot of duration for a 388ci engine, especially for one you want to keep under 5000 rpm as that kind of duration would seem to want to makes its best power at over 6000. You'll have to let me know how well it pulls from down low in the rpm range. Is there something in your boat's engine/od/prop combo I am missing? I'd like to learn. rayjay

Rayjay,
I'll keep you posted. I'm not one bit concerned with low end power or "out of the hole" shot. I'm looking to produce peak ponies in the top end only, as I'm after speed. (Yes one day I'll graduate to a big block) But for now, my plethora of small block parts enable me to do various things with the SBC. I've never been one to make mild engines, mine are always on the border line of being too radical. http://206.150.187.82/ubb/eek.gif

Supra comes from my neck of the woods, they are fantastic ski boats.
Some models had the stringers go bad so keep an eye on them.
When you are done for the day you may want to put a spacer(2X4) under the hatch so the moisture can escape the engine compartment.
Not a bad place to put an extra vent.
Keep us informed on the GT-21.

Jamesbon, Are you in Fla. or NY?? What drive are you running? I've read alot of good things about those "fastburn" head's!! I run Stainless Marine exhaust with the long tubes as well. The water enters the exhaust at the end of the pipe. LOUD!!! GEOO

RickR,
Ahh, I'm glad someone else can relate to Supra's. I've been a long time fan of them, as I grew up skiing behing my neighbors. I'll definetly "air" this one out when the day's done, as it wasn't cheap, and it's in perfect condition. I never knew about the stringers, but will be sure to keep an eye out for that.

GEOO,
I'm down in St. Petersburg, FL. Glad to hear you've read the good things about the Fast Burn heads, it makes the decision I made to thousand bucks on them, hurt a little less. I'm VERY curious to see how they perform.

I'm still chugging along on the final touches. I have 4 more adjustable guide plates to install on the starboard bank of the engine. I've slacked off somewhat, as I've been taking the new Supra to a local lake. (It eases the pain of the Donzi being laid up.) I plan to do the guide plates tonight. Then, just tighten the exhaust, install the water pumps, FWC tank, and alternator. Pop it in, turn the key. (If it were only that simple) More to come.
