Thermostat Housing

I would like to know if when you install the senders in the thermostat housing on a Merc 350 Mag do you use teflon tape on the threads or do you use pipe thread sealer or nothing at all. I understand that these senders have to be able to ground.

When mine was replaced he just wiped out the fitting and screwed it in! Nothing on the threads.

The manuals say not to use tape or sealant with a brass fitting. But I always use a little tape and have never had a problem.

I do the same as Rick. It still makes ground.

Thanks guys for the advice. If you use a little tape how many wraps is that on the sender? Also the SS bolts that hold the thermostat housing to the manifold seem to constantly work themselves loose and cause a small leak of coolant, what do you do for this problem?

On brass I use one wrap.
If the bolts work loose try a stainless lock washer or some Loctite (blue)

At the risk of asking a dumb question here it goes. Are the sensors like most parts, if their not broken don't touch them. Or, should you replace them once in a while. I just replaced my thermostat during my winter layup process and thought about replacing the sensors but didn't.
