Mark, When the Co-Pilot got home last night I asked about our rates.....some of the items to consider; 1.)Replacement Value Boat & Trailer 2.)Rates vary also depending on how far offshore you normally go as well as how far you go from your normal "port" of operation, if you are a lunatic, like us and drive 100's or even more miles to Donzi events(Owen)you need to ask your Agent if you will be covered? It does you no good to have min. insurance coverage so your legal and when you have a claim from some distant event, and find out you're not covered there, just an FYI! Also check to determine what's reasonable and /or responsible liability limits...just in case someone does get hurt on your boat(run into a Sea Duck @ 60mph)*%#@ happens, rates are often not too much more for increases in this type of coverage. Remember you're not racing all the time here, alot of the time you're "taking in the sites too eek! ", I'll send you more specifics, good luck this weekend, let me know how you make out!... wink ...Doc

Mark,

Buy the boat! OMC and all, you know what I mean. And go with Progressive for insurance, I can not find anyone else to compare to their price or service.

Mark - This is Mrs. Dr. Dan (aka Liz). As you know we have a 1993 22 Classic. We use National Marine Underwriters. We have an agreed value of $22,000 for the boat and $3500 for the trailer. Our annual insurance premiums are $691.
You can increase your deductibles that will decrease your premium. In addition, your rates will drop slightly if you take the Coast Guard safety class. If you don't already have personal umbrella insurance, you may want to talk to your Homeowners/ auto insurance agent about purchasing this additional liability insurance. Mrs. Dr. Dan (aka Liz)

Jim,

The phone number I have to Progressive is 1-800-888-7764. You can also go to Progressive.com. I was with Allstate for 20 years, I had all of my cars, boats and home with them.

Progressive came in with higher coverage and $600.00 less per year! I called Allstate to see if they would do any better than what I was already paying and they wouldn't even talk about it. It is worth the call!

Mark, Congratulations...The Big thing is to come to an appropriate "Agreed To Value..."each boat is worth what it's worth to us as the owner, if the Ins. Co. will insure it for what you "agree to, then it's covered, you can ask your insurance co. about the specifics based on where you will be using your boat....As far as Sea Tow, you can include it with your insurance(which is a good idea) or buy a coverage service that is offered in the local that you will be using it, ie. Sea Tow, Boat U.S., or who ever, remember, having it in your insurance coverage may cover costs when you are away from your normal area, where a "Sea Tow" won't help you if they are not a tow service offered on Lake Lanier for example, then you rely on other boaters or other services, but hey it's a Donzi and you're not going to need a tow service :D , unless you are like some guys who run out of gas(Brad) ,Good Luck...Doc
