i'm high bidder, but the reserve isn't met yet. i wonder if it will be a deal. what is the MSRP or the dealer invoice on this boat?

Dredgeking, I am guessing you are probably still a little ways from his reserve, but hwo knows how it will work out. Good luck. It sure is a beautiful boat. Looks like he has another donzi in the backround, as well as a fountain.

Guys, recommend you go the Ebay seller's web site and scope the other wares that are for auction at importcaralley. Awesome! And, I don't use that word too often. They must be tapping into the Ft. Knox reserve down there in Tenn..

I would surmise a retail of ~55k, a list of ~45k, and a reserve of ~40k. Wild, rounded guesses...it will be interesting to see what develops.
Awesome looking boat, sure wish I had that kind of discretionary scratch burning a hole in my trousers!

i just bid on it for the hell of it. my girlfriend nearly had aheart attack when she saw me bidding on it. she thought i was going after it and reminded me we have one donzi in the garage and a baby on the way. besides. i want to hold out for the DANGEROUS special addition 22 with the HP500. you can never have too much horsepower, but you can use too much horsepower.

Amazing how after my search for a 22 Classic has ended, there are blue and white ones all over the place! Took me over a year to find mine. :D Even the 18 in the background is blue and white! Quite an operation down there at Pier 57. Anyone know if this is the new Donzi dealer on Lake Cumberland that I need to contact about AOTH III? I think an inquiry call is in order!

Just got off the phone and YES, Pier 57 is a new Donzi dealer. I'm sending them information about AOTH for the owner to review. Not sure if they'll want to travel up from TN, but I'll give it a shot.

You can price out a 03 Classic 22 with the 496HO for between 44 and 48 K depends on the dealer and options. If you don't go nuts on stuff like CD players etc. Pier 57 would have to get at least 43.500K+ dealer prep and shipping to turn a profit on that boat. Than add a trailer.

Dredgeking,

500 very good. 525 even better! Working an angle
on a 525 for the Somerville Edition right now. We will see, but the 500 may be coming out.

You want dibs?

todd, your kidding me about the 525 right? powerboat said horrible things about the 500. how much of it is true? i'm not a pansie by any means. the idea of running loose in a blackhawk is my idea of fun, but i don't want to do something just plumb nuts. email some details on the 525 if you have any. with the baby on the way i doubt i'll have another boat this year, but there is always next.

Dredge,

Here is some info on the 525 from the Mercury web site...

http://www.mercurymarine.com/hp525_efi_-_500_hp

I was talking to Mike Tomlison, chief ref for the APBA, and he says that mercury has this motor way under-rated. He says they are getting 540-550hp out of them on the dyno. APBA is putting a big ole weight penalty on racers who have them for this year's series! I want one. Based on the benchmark that I have with the 500, the 525 would put me into the 84-86 range.

As for the Powerboat article, let's just say that Bob Teaque wasn't the test driver that day! My 500EFI puts the boat into the low 80's and it is an absolute blast. Not hairy at all, unless someone suggests you test a left-handed prop!
Incredible acceleration and handling, the boat is night and day from the 502MPI package it had.

My suggestion would be to buy a new or fairly fresh used 22 and do the conversion yourself. I did and couldn't be happier with the results.

By the way, plan on the Texas roundup at the end of September and we'll take you for a ride.

todd, are the x dimensions the same between the 502 and the hp 500? i wouldn't want to buy an older hull and not have the right x dimension. a 22 will be in the not too distant future as long as i don't get the bug to buy another offshore boat. offshore boats = more trouble and less time on the water.

i've heard they 525 is closer to 540hp also. the 300lb per engine APBA weight penalty takes all the fun out of the extra power. i'm still a big fan of the hp3 from GM. i drove an hp3 in a super vee single last year and really liked in in corpus bay.

hottub,

i had island one marine work on my fountain 2 years ago and ended up with a $2000 bill and had nothing to show for it. not to mention they burned up the impeller and did not clean out the pieces from the water hose. just things like that make me stay away from most marinas. they over charge and then screw things up and then get mad when you take your boat to have someone else do the work.

Evidence of what a 500EFI and a shortie can do to a Classic. Try it, you'll like it! 525 even better!
