I also use auto trans fluid in the tabs and motor oil in the drive.
My Clymer Manual says 10w30 or 10w40 in the trim pump. SAE 30 can be used in tropical climates.

Madpoodle, won't the paint come off when your sunburn peels?

The oriional maual sait 20 wt for the trin pump, the up dated version said 10w30, which is what I use. The bennetts use ATF. You helping the guy out dwn the road or did you buy it from him? If you change the Fluif in the trans, yse only TYPE F only or it will slip. I have already made this mistake. That is TYPE F only not a compatible DextronIII.

BB, I found that if you use lighter oil in the trim pump, like power steering fluid or light hydraulic oil, the unit will trim faster. Heavier oil will make it trim slower.

Grizz, for even more type "F" fluid effect (more clutch friction) in you MercTrans, try B&M Trick Shift or B&M Synthetic Trick Shift.

Interesting about the Dextron and Type F. I have ran Dextron III / Type F equivalent for 5 seasons, probably 350 hours with out any noticable slip. Do you think it is becasue I have a small block instead of a big block?
