View Full Version : What Volvo outdrive?

I'm looking at at 1973 boat that has the number ZNR28154048 on the top of the Volvo outdrive; I'm waiting for the seller to send me pictures of them.

Which outdrive is this?

I've heard that Volvo made racing outdrives, SS or Super Sports. How can one identify these types of drives? (I'm assumig I'm not that lucky)

To the best of my knowledge the Speedmaster lower had no markings. I checked the markings on my upper volvo and they made no mention of E-Drive lower.

If you find out that it does have an E
BUY IT!!!!!!!

usually the older volvo's had the model in the serial number mine is like XX250bXXX I have a 250B, I would think it would be a 280 drive judging by the number but it is missing the letter a,b , or c but that could have changed in the early 70's, the e drives lower unit look totally different than a normal lower,more like a speedmaster,

If the upper unit makes no special mention of the Speedmaster lower, how does one determine if the lower is a Speedmaster?

What makes the Speedmaster so much more desireable? Which models were offered by Donzi with the Speedmaster?

E Drive? Is that a nickname for the Speedmaster?

I'll have pictures tomorrow, but based on the description "pointy cone opposite prop", I'm thinking that the boat they are Speedmasters.

How many board members are running theses?

MOP- I've spent hours searching the Internet for Speedmasters and E-Drives and the only think I've found were the Mercruiser Speedmasters.

Can you post a pic or any info that you have on these- Now I'm really curious to learn more about them.
