I have a large area of fiberglass on the deck of a boat that was exposed to a fire. The plywood core is not burnt, but the gelcoat and resin of the matt has been baked/burned away. This is not a structural area. Since the Matt is intact I was thinking of re applying multiple coats of resin and fairing it out. Once it is faired ouT I would reapply Gelcoat.

Any comments or suggestions?

Scot,

The west system products are unbeatable.

Scott, post a picture of the damage. When you do any fiberglass work you try to get as much glass in the job as possible with the least amount of resin. You want just enough resin to totally saturate the fibers and squeeze out the remainder. Resin just holds things together, the strength in the glass fibers.

Also, If there is any scoreing fom the fire on the wood, sand it clean, to make sure there is a good hold for the glass matting.
