I have a 2000 Formula 382 Fastec. Great boat but no head room. Looking at trading into a 45ZX. Anybody have any experiences they would like to share?

I've been in two. It certainly is a big boat with a lot of head room. The last one I was in had tripple 575's and could break 90-MPH. We had the boat in 4-5 foot seas and if felt very solid.

I did heard one dealer complain about the design but I'm not sure what issues he had with the boat. It may have been that he felt the boat was top heavy, but if you want the head room you have to sacrifice something. The 45's have been selling pretty good and I've not heard any other major complaints.

Does anyone in CA have one in stock?

Need some pictures? Look for the 45's. More detailed pictures in the 2001 show.

There was one at the 2001 Donzi Owners Rally held in Sarasota. It was Blue and White. What a beautiful Donzi. It had 3 500HP engines I believe. Brad Verd got the opportunity to drive the boat. He may have some views on the boats performance. If you would like to see more pictures, check out threads on the Rally. Brad did an excellent job of capturing the weekend on disk. I remember seeing a few shots of the 45ZX.

You can't compare the 38 to the 45 because you gain so much more room in the 45 and when I upgraded from my 38 it was just that: an upgrade. I would not go back to a 38 because the 45 is much more boat and the performance ride and looks are pure Donzi. I highly recommend it.

Yes, I was lucky enough to get a ride in a Daytona 45 in Sarasota, even behind the wheel for a little bit http://www.verd.com/photos/donzi/P0002871a.jpg

I am probably not the right person to ask. Most of my experience have been in alot smaller boats. All I can say is it handled the 4ft seas in the gulf like nothing. "Chop? What chop?" It was great. Never felt unsteady and there was no lack of power. As far as room, there was plenty of room. Hell... you could put my boat in the engine compartment, it was so big. But I am 6'2" and had not trouble standing in the cabin. Just my $.02 --Brad

Roger

I think you know my feelings on the 45ZX, sure wish we could have got together this weekend to take a ride. The boat is awesome, and one of the few if not the only one to handle the rough water of lake of the ozarks.

Guys Roger was a little scared of Donzi as a company after visiting OSO, hopefully we are overcoming that but all help or input would be appreciated.

Hope to see you soon Roger!

I saw the thread on OSO and beleive me it
is crap! I have owned 11 Donzi's and used
to work at the plant. They go out of there
way to satisfy and to keep you satisfied!
I would not hesitate to buy another one!!
As far as the 45 goes...I can't think of
anything that even compairs to it!
It is a true champion. I have driven a 45
on lake of the Ozarks and it was awesome!
just my 2 cents.

Just for comparison, Fountain's 47 Lightning runs 80 with triple 500's, but has a bit of a choppy ride for what it is, and rattles some.

Powerboat mag. did a piece at the Ft. Meyers Hooters APBA race on the 45ZX and they had nothing but praise that a boat this BIG could reach the speeds and comfort level and all this from a production boat...They were amazed at the finish of the gel-coat,they said it was like looking into a mirror. They also finished with saying thats a typical Donzi finish.... :D ;)

We were quoting at the show for around 370K I believe with triple 575's. I think the boat at the show was the same boat at the dealer meeting.

Sundance Kid,

That is a nice price for one with 575's, that is right where I am at with current deals. 319 on new ones with 500's. How many have you guys sold?

I think we've only sold two. One was a stock boat, and one was a special order. No one likes sportboats down here, only fishboats! In fact, we just sold a 2000 38 ZX that we had for 2 years and 4 months! I just don't get it, I love sportboats and fishboats, why not just buy one of each? :D
