Donzi enthusiasists!
Anyone going to the SBI race in Miami next weekend?
007 will be there, keep an eye out. Marriott was full, so I'm staying at the Clarion. Arriving the morning of the 29th.
Borrowing a tow vehicle, so no problems this time!
Does anyone know if the Clarion is dockside or not?
Scotty, do you know?

I DO realize that this is the same weekend as the Donzi sponsored Poker Run in Jax. And that might still be an option. But 007 Racing Team members are presently voting for Miami.
Forrest, are you going to Jax? And if so, what boat are you bringing?

NO Jax, No Miami. John at Bilt-Rite has my driver seat to my 16. He is building a new interior for it. My mother won't let be borrow her Chevy van anymore to tow the Magnum any great distance after I smoked the tranny pulling it back from St Pete a few years back. I guess I need to pony-up for a big 'ol truck. The X-18 is close to being ready, but not that close. Hopefully, early July for it's maiden run. The Hornet II is just a bare hull and deck at this time with a couple of coats of Awlgrip 545 gray epoxy primer (looks like a Florida Marine Patrol boat).

Now for the boats of shame: Though turn key and ready to go, the Glastron-Carlson CV-16 is totally unsuitable for the task and shouldn't be considered. What does that leave? An old 16 Checkmate racing tunnel hull and a recently acquired 12' offshore mini-cat (looks like the real thing, just shrunken!). Both need total rigging and motors and aren't suitable anyway. I do have a travel bar, though!

Crazy me. I live in Jax but am going to the Miami event by proxy (business trip - coincidence).
The Jax poker run maxed out its entry list with 45 boats. No more entries accepted. The start location is a "club" on a narrow and depth restricted creek across from a very busy Hooters dock. Virtually all of the checkpoints would have been better choices for the headquarters, but then I didn't volunteer to run the thing so I don't get to make these choices.
One checkpoint of particular good fortune is the Crabpot location. Beautiful scenery, new extended docking, "earthy" mixture of clientelle (bikers, rednecks, yuppie boaters - very Florida). Even has gas and a deep water ramp. Popular spot. They should have hosted it there.
Have a great time! Sorry to miss one in my own backyard. Weather and water should be perfect.

Mark & "Quixote" (stocker Sweet 16)

PS Although I'll be in South Florida Wednesday through Saturday, you can e-mail me for info on the Jax area.
Maybe next year we'll run a parallel event for Donzi Classic Registry members - no registration limit, and we'll invite the Hooters girls to sun at the Crabpot. The water is fresh, the beer is cold, and the Gatortail and shrimp is just plain snappy!

Forrest,
Forget boats for now, bring travel bar. I think there will be a small contingent of 007 Racing Team members on the beach, we're considering working the race and well, not every is psyched about that.
JimmyC,
I want you to start thinking about dragging one of those boats down this summer for one of the races. Call me for details.
ScottB,
I heard that on the way to DC, the aircraft that Elian's distant Miami relatives were on was hijacked to Cuba, what a twist of fate.
Also, please contact me asap regarding this upcoming weekend.
Varyak,
Email me with your location in Miami, let's meet up. I'll be hanging out at the wet pits at the Marriott.
Everyone else,
Get your gear together and let's go!!!!!!
Little Havana is far from the race, I don't think they can get out of town anyway!

GeneD et al,
I'm staying in the Inter-Continental Hotel. My business seminar ends on Saturday at noonish. I will look for you and 007 in the wet pits. I'll be wearing my Registry T-shirt for I.D. (imagine the Michelin Man in black). I'm brining my offshore PFD and goggles "just in case." I look forward to seeing you again (who could mistake that boyish grin of the REAL "Oldest Boat" awardee. I thought you were going to cry with happiness). See you Saturday afternoon.

Forrest, could you get a pic up of that little cat? These miniatures are a lot of fun.
Here's a pic (in the background) of my 13.5' Penetrator. Does about 45 with the 65 Mariner. Looking for a properly sized Cigarette sticker. http://206.150.187.82/ubb/smile.gif

Mark,
I almost did!
I couldn't get that vodka down my gullet fast enough.
Francis,
Cigarette stickers can be had at any boat race from the Cigarette trailer.
What is that blue boat with the fin?

Originally, Todd Cimmino (http://www.miami2ny.com/toddc.html) had this boat built for his daughter a couple of years ago. It was suppose to be a miniature of "Tweet Revenge", which was the boat he was racing at the time until he stuffed it during practice run in Government Cut. The boat was destroyed, Todd ended up in a coma for a week or so . . . well anyway his is OK today, but his daughter didn't want the boat since she was getting in to horseback riding, so I picked it up really cheap. In fact I got it so cheap even GeneD would have bought it! I figure that I will find a 35 to 55HP outboard, rig it out, and do something with it. . . may be even use it!

Oh That is Sweet! If it was mine, I'd have to get a shriner's cap just to complete the picture. http://206.150.187.82/ubb/smile.gif
