In Orlando, many Donzi owners asked me how to read the hul ID numbers, so I thought I might give the information that I know about it. My own ID number is: DMRZ5110H687. As I understand it, it means "Donzi-Marine,Zboat, hull 110 out of the mold, built in H(eighth month), of 6(1986), and is a 1987 model boat. I have a question. Does that mean 110th boat for that year's production, or 110th boat ever to come out of the mold?

Donzigo,
If I had to make an educated guess I would have to say that It would be the number in the production run. If it was the number that came out of the mold, that would mean more than one boat could have the same HIN.

OK. I'll be a pain. What's the 5 mean? My guess is the hull model. In this case 5 would mean 18'. That's just a guess though.

I've been curious myself about these numbers. The last 2 numbers on my 16 OB are 74, yet it's titled as a 1973 model.

Also for those interested, my HIN has a B tacked onto the end which I assume designates it as an outboard. This seems to be confirmed by Todd Beaudoin's 16 OB in the registry. His is the only registered OB and it is also the only one ending in B.

Since the H6 means August of 1986, thera would not be more than one hull number with the same build date. It's an interesting thought, though. Thanks.

The "5" means 25 foot, in my case, a Z-25 foot boat. Thanks for the reply.

Donzigo,
I sitting here trying to figure out how you are coming to the conclusion that ,if you base HIN's off of mold runs that 2 boats can't share a number. Here's my reasoning. If Donzi (or any other decent sized manufacturer for that matter) is going to tool up for a production run, I would imagine that they probably use more than 1 mold. Other wise they probably couldn't sell enough boats to keep up with demand. With that being said it is possible that 2 boats were finished on the same day, thus sharing HIN's. I still think the number goes to the run and not the mold.

On the subject of hull numbers, mine isn't on a stamped piece of metal, or stamped anywhere, it is on top of the transom, etched by hand. Is this normal? Where can I look on the boat to cross-reference this number against another (hidden location) number? Ideas? Hate to learn my boat is "hotter" than I think it is.

Gee, I never thought of that. Two molds. I did see the original mold that my bvoat came out of. It was in the "bone-yard" down at Donzi. But, I didn't think there was two. Good, point. Wish I knew the answer.

Good question. Maybe the hull numbers have changed their meaning in different model years. what do you think?

Last night I looked at an old 18' 2+3 ('67), and couldn't find any plate or etching with a number. The only number was "#106" written in marker (and cleared over) under the fore deck. 1) Where should the plate be? And 2) It looks like a DONZI from the fit and finish, but is it? Guy is second owner from FL, and FL papers say "1967 DONZI #106". Any ideas or information? Thanks, rayjay

Bertram Boy-
According to the Registry, someone else has the same HIN as my boat. I could'nt find an email address for him.......or boat info.
Harbormaster got any ideas??
