I've got lots of info on the Four Winns Unlimited series (U-17 & U-19), built for only two years...1996 and 1997. Let me know if you want what I have regarding them.

The reports of them being "dangerous" are exagerrated...like any other high powered deep vee they require some experience in order to operate them.

That boat was a poor excuse for a Donzi, One of the worst remakes made . I knew someone that had one, chine walked all over the place, could not handle and rode like a dolphin with a wedgee.

There is a Four Winns U-17 for sale in my local paper. I think it is a '96 and they have it down to $11,500.00. If it is not too dangerous, it would be a good buy. I think I would like to try one out for a comparo some time.

Warpath, that is a 96 Four Winns U-17. With the right power and outdrive, they are one bad-ass little boat! My friend had one for a season then moved up to a U-19 and still has it. His boat was actually the reason that I started looking at Donzis.

His 17 had a EFI 5.0 with 220hp and a duoprop outdrive. It was an absolute slingshot from dead stop to top speed of about 65mph.

His 19 has a EFI 5.8 with 275hp and the duoprop. Runs damn close to 70mph.

I am tired of hearing the reports of this boat being dangerous. The boat that Hot boat had to test with had the limit switches bypassed and the idiots didn't know how to drive it. They went into a corner with the drive tucked under and put the boat up on it's side. Tony is right, "exagerated" is putting it mildly for the dangerous claims.

And Frank, I definitely have to disagree with you on this one. You are a very knowledgeable person so don't take this the wrong way. But I think the Unlimited was an excellent copy. Granted, not a Donzi but still a bad-ass boat. I have been out in Lake Michigan in his 19 in 6 footers running 60+ mph. It ate it up. I have also been in the boat on flat water and seen him run it WFO for over 30 minutes!!! Damn Ford motor is bulletproof. Does chinewalk big-time in flat water. But, once you get used to it's actually fun. :D

Anyway, there's my .02. Well, more like .05. :D

The 17 was on the hit list. Not the 19. The 17 had a bottom problem with its strakes. When I bought my 16 my friend bought the17 for 2000 cheaper then my Donzi, Blackhawk me Na never bothers me thats what makes the registry so good. But the were numerous tests on the 17 by Powerboat, Boating world and Hotboat and they all came up with the almost the same opinion, The 17 was fater then my 16 but he could not keep the back from swaying side to side no matter how he trimmed it after 60mph and she flopped a lot. I dont know how the 19 is but there were no bad reports on the 19.

learn me something guys,
I thought 4 winns and donzi were owned by the same company when they made those u-17 and 19's so why do they handle different, if you shoot a mold of the hull don't you get the same hull? and if you lay it out the same way, weight, power and then just cut cost on the interior quality carpets and such?????? I mean if you shoot a mold of pamela anderson, then tinker and you wind up with loni anderson what do you have???

two rides I'd like to take ;) :D

Pamela Anderson to Loni Anderson isn't so bad, it's when you start with Pammy and end up with Louie Anderson that you're in trouble.

Frank, the 17 does chine walk a little worse. But, like I said, once you get used to it it was kinda fun. It's really fun when you get someone in the boat that has never been past 40 mph on their water. They are scared to death! :D

The 6 footers were definitely rollers. They had a lot of space in between them. I do not boat much in Lake Michigan and I hate the usual 2-3 "chop". So, I was scared as hell at first. Started getting sea sick at idle coming out out at Grand Haven. But after a while I just hung on tight and smiled. I didn't think you could jump boats like that, reminded me of my motocross days. :D

Speaking of Pamela Andersen, I heard a good one this morning:
What's the difference between Pamela Andersen and a Mosquito?

A mosquito will stop sucking when you smack it!

Just a little off color humor.
