On a 22' Classic, what year did Donzi switch from port to starboard helm?

i don't think there ever was a lefthand helm on the 22. You'll note that the precurser to the 22, the Criterion, has a righthand helm.

arrrrrrrhhhggggg......

Oky, there are no lefthand Classic 22's. smile.gif

Poodle, why would they have made a lefty Criterion? It doesn't make any sense to make two deck molds for such a low production boat.

does it make the lh criterion ultra super rare?
Jr. I would say there are no lh 22 classics but I hesitate to say it cause the next post will be a pic of a lh 22 from the Poodle tongue.gif wink.gif eek.gif biggrin.gif

Matt, You're close to being right. If I was computer savy enough to downsize and post a pic I would. However I have a brochure form 1984 and it lists all models as coming with either Merc. of Volvo drives. It has pictured an 18' right hand drive, on the next page are two pics of a HornetIII showing both left and right hand steering, although it looks like the same boat. The next page has a creme colored 22 2+3 with left hand steering. Now for the wierd part, it shows the CriterianII single seat as only coming with the 330hp Merc. but the picture shows it with left hand steering. Do you think the negatives may have gotten flipped when they were laying out the bruchure?

I guess it is possible? Big Grizzly would be the one that knows, he knows the criterion series. could Poodle's pic be reversed?have we entered a parrallel universe eek.gif the 22 classic debuted in 81 was volvo still an option?
who's got the answers? like JR stated doesn't make sense 2 molds for the different drives?
sounds expensive.

There were left and right hand drivr Criterions. The dash board would fit on either side. There were three different dash layouts in the standard Criterion.
I have seen a left hand drive drive 22 clasic with a Alpha drive and a Chevy in it.

Okay, so there are no 1985 22' Classics with lh drive? What is the difference between a Classic and a 22' 2+3? Now I'm getting a education! Is there any good complete picture source for all the years and models available? I'm starting to think I should go back to my other strange obsession, fast Turbo Buicks! Thanks for any info.

A friend of mine owned a 22' criterion, dark blue, single seat, merc 330, TRS, left hand drive. He took me out for a ride in the 1980's. What a different feeling, being that I owned a 18' right hand Donzi.
He also had owned at one time the black cigarette #1 that is on the cover of "The King of Thunderboat Row". Bought it directly from Aronow. I never did get a ride in that one, but I did see it fly down the river once.

There is a slight difference in the hull top chines between the early 2+3 and the later ones
