I own a 86 18 ft. classic and need to go up in prop pitch it's powered by a 350 mag mpi and an alpha gen 2 . The prop now is a mirage plus 21 and a fellow has a 23 pitch cleaver and i was told it causes the stern to lift . I have no experience in this field of prop causeing bow or stern lift. any idea's would be helpful . Jeff

From what I have learned up here the 18 does not need stern lift, you will get some real good advice from the guys with the 18s as to what prop will work the best for your set up.

Zinger, If you want to dump that Mirage Plus 21 let me know. I am in the market for one.

I've run cleavers pretty extensively on my 16 w/ gen II & 350. A 21, 23 and a 25P cleaver as my power requirements increased. The cleaver will make the boat run much flatter than with the mirage which is great for stability, because you have the boat in the water and also the cleaver reduces torque on the sterndrive which is transferred to the hull. Cleavers are straight away fairly neutral lifting, WOT props and they perform well on the top end, especailly if you need stability to gain speed there as i did in the 16. Cleavers are very inefficient in the low to mid range and are not the best for cruising and fuel milage. generally if you are running a 21 mirage and then go to a 21 cleaver plan to gain about 2 - 300 rpm, go to a 23 cleaver and plan to lose that and be even with the 21 mirage for rpm on the top end. i was averaging anywhere from 14 - 17% slip on my 16 with the GEN II and then also with the SS and the cleaver combo.

do a search from last summer and you can actually see some graphs and my trials and tribulations on cleaver and other prop testing.

I also sea trialed an 18 about a year ago that had a 350 mag *270 pshp* and an alpha spinning a 21 cleaver, 4800 rpm, and about 62 mph... was very stable but had very very very little bow lift.

I'm not a Marage plus fan I have beaten them at every turn with the Turbo prop. With a standard X dimention I feel the drive runs to deep to need an surfas piersing prop. That prop won't give stern lift on your boat.

Greg, the prop is in very good condition it has a couple of very slight marks on one tip , it was never damaged or repaired. For a fair price it's yours. alecsammy@aol.com or 203 877-7560 Jeff
