Folks, I really wish I had a crafty name for my Classic. Problem is my creativity is horrible. I've seen posts like this before and was always amazed at the amount of clever names posted. The only name I've come up with so far is "Barely Legal" since she's loud, fast and only 18! Help! Randy

Ranman,
I don't know about the rest of the memebers, but a donzi classic really doesn't need a name! It speaks for itself! Good luck in your search

Check out this site. It helped me name my boat.
They list thousands of names alphabetically. Good reference. My 18s name is 'Naut for Sail'.
I only took a year and a half to come up with it.
Good luck. Bob

Both Tom Petty & Pink Floyd have songs called 'Learning To Fly'. I always thought that would be perfect on a Classic.

I'm no good with boat names either. Maybe that's why since 1973, I've alway refered to my 16 Donzi as the The Donzi. Now, what works for me is to let someone else come up with a name after they see it or take a ride. In the case of my 16 Donzi, after Eufaula, Big Grizzly started calling her, Littl' Green Giant Killer. That sounded good to me and to make it easy to say, I shortened it to just Littl' Green. The X-18 is still unnamed, but I call it the "X" (how original) and the nine-year girl down the street calls the Magnum Candy Striper because of the red and white stripe upholstery. The jury is still out on that one though but it will work for now.

I think its bad luck to have a boat with no name...I'd love to see a Donzi with
DAMN DONZI
on the transom :D

I think Grizz's Criterian is named "Damn Donzi".

"Barely Legal" is a great name, go with it.

I have always named my boat for the sake of others, not for me. Up on Winni there are a handful of similar Classics and when I refer to it as 'Crazy Horse' it identifies which Classic I am talking about. This is especially true at the marinas that we all frequent. There was a scene in one of the James Bond movies where they said it was bad luck to not name your boat. Who is going to argue with 007?

Abel, I like "Barely Legal" too, but am worried it sounds to "porno" or "pedo" or something. I guess I'm just going to have go with "Strippers Welcome" or "Thongs Stay Free". Randy

I'll add .02 cents worth on this one. I don't think it will help you Randy in naming your Classic, but here it is any way. I owned my 18 Classic for 17 years and never put a name on her because I didn't want anything taking from the natural lines and beauty of her. Another reason is the limited space to place a name on the back of the boat. I of course in no way ever used a boat the way James Bond did in his movies, but as for bad luck? Let me tell you that my 18 brought me home from more places I probably didn't belong than I care to remember. As for our new 22 Classic, I thought about "Classaholic", but again, I decided to not put a name on her for the same reasons I didn't put one on the 18. When I ordered my new personalised dock lines, I simply had "Classic 22" placed on them. That in my opinion was all that was needed. :)

I hated winter sooo bad, that I named mine Wintersux. It was almost Morningwood(open exhaust no mufflers-great sound) but I was told that was just too much.
Play with it and name it to fit your style!

Mike, Your interesting suggestion has brough me to remember my family "motto". I was also looking to change my signature and your post led me to it. Thanks. Randy Oak

The name game.... I've had the same thoughts with my Hornet that I purchased in February. My brother thinks that "Stinger" is appropriate, while I like "Stung". Then I look at the lines and the transom, and I just can't get excited about putting a name on the back. It was easier to name all of my inboards because of the space on the transom. With the stern drive, there just may be too much going on. Another .02 worth....

Every boat I've owned had a different personality. I have had my fair share of boats and have learned to be patient when looking for a name. The right name will come to you eventually. I try to let the boats name themselves.

The fisherman in me agrees with Digger. A boat needs a name for good luck.

You don't have to post a HUGE name on your Donzi.
I'm a "Less is More" kind of guy so I put a small "Genuine Risk" on the sides only, behind the American Flag.
BTW A boat should be named after a female. Genuine Risk was the 1980 Kentucky Derby Winner. 2nd filly to ever win it. $$$$ wink

I never named mine either. We also never said, "lets go for a boat ride", it was always "lets go beat the Donzi"

I've always wanted to put the word "NEXT" on the transom, I think you'll get the picture
