Electric water pump to replace stock unit. Just wondering if anyone's done it. One less belt, one less aux component to rob hp. Any reason not to?

Tried a couple different ones on a 455 Buick race car. Bottom line it worked in the 1/4 and 1/8 mile but sucked on the street. Not enough pressure or volume. It worked great to cool down the engine between runs. Except once in a while he forgot to charge the battery while using it to cool the engine and would blow the next run because of low voltage to the ignition system.

I've used the Meziere water pumps on my 496, 509 Chevy's and 252, 470 and 535 Buick's with excellent success. Now, these were drag race and street engines, and cooling was NEVER an issue.
The key point is to check the impeller clearance distance to the internal cover face and keep it around .030-.040 max., the closer the better..
