Does anyboby know if a SS prop is available ANYWHERE for a late 60's early 70's Volvo 270 (Left Hand Rotation)?? I have already talked to Volvo and Michigan Wheel Co. and neither of them do. They both offer some aluminum props, but limited pitch selection. Haven't contacted the Stilletto folks yet but I imagine they, like the others, only make SS options for the newer Volvo SX drives. One marina dealer told me that Mercruiser actually made something that would (maybe) work with an old Volvo 270 due to an interchangeable hub of some kind. Didn't get much detail on that. I can understand companies making props primarily to match more current drive styles, but it seems, from what I've read, that, since basically the old Volvos "never die" there ought to be someone making a good stainless for, if nothing else, classic Donzis!!! Anyway if anybody has any leads for SS prop for the old 270 please let me know. Thanks!

Call Gene at Wheel and Rudder Marine (http://www.volvopentaparts.com) and see if he can find you a Volvo-Penta Ultra prop. They are available in LH and RH, 3 or 4 blades, and pitch sizes of 22", 24", and 26".

I just bought one from Wheel and Rudder Marine (http://http:/www.volvopentaparts.com) from $391. The ultra high performance prop that Volvo made is still available. They made four versions of the prop- 2 right-hand models and 2 left-hand models. Each was available with either a "non-rebuildable" hub or a rebuildable hub. I understand that Michigan can rebuild the "non-rebuildable" ones. The rebuildable ones in left-hand I believe have a -04 at the end of the part number. Forrest let me borrow his LH 14x24 for the Mello Yello and it was awesome, so I had to have one! It gives the bow additional lift, so top-end is improved even more that I thought it would. Forrest is the man when it comes to these things. His Magnum has a pair of Volvos and he has spun a hub on the high seas and had to limp home from offshore.

I've spun the hubs out of two "rebuilt" rebuildable Volvo Ultra units.

You don't want to go that way!

I've seen several 4-blade LH cleavers around here (Austin and San Antonio) on various Volvo drives... Fairly radical pitch. They all had a bronze insert in the hub that looked like some kind of an adapter. These were all small-diameter hubed units -- like something from a Speedmaster. But they were on AQ drives...

There may be (or may have been) a prop shop around here building them up...

If I come across anything, I'll post it.

These appeared to be all early Volvos -- no center screw.

I modified my output shaft and string cutter to accommodate new or old props on my boat...

avickers, Admiral/C&B Propeller in Tampa (http://www.acbprop.com/) can rebuild any Volvo-Penta propeller hub for $85 where you won't spin it again unless you hit something hard. It requires some machining to install the hevy-duty Michigan hub. The turn-around time is usually 2-days once they get it. If you buy a new Ultra prop, I recommend having the hub changed out fairly soon after you get it home. Don't wait until it spins and leaves you stranded or lets your engine hit 9-grand no-load before before you can back off the throttle.
