Help! I bought this new Mirage Plus 25P and for some reason it is different than the one I have. In the pictures, my old prop is always on the left. It is the really shiney one. Why are the hubs different. Is there an adaptor or will the prop not work for my application (Bravo One - splined shaft)? The new prop (Right in all pics) is LAB finished. Is it traditional for the LAB process to leave the finish so dull? Theres also a pic that shows the part numbers on both. I wanted to test this prop this Sunday. Is there something I can do or am I outta luck? Thanks for any input.

There is a brass spacer on your prop shaft that you need to change when you switch between those two prop styles.
They both work.
You can get a 35.00 kit that comes with nut,s.s. lock washer, square plastic insert and brass washer.
I ran in to this problem when I borrowed my neighbor's 25p prop (I have a 23p with a full length splined hole like your first prop).
The black plastic piece,I think,is supposed to shear off first so you don't do damage elsewhere.

Frank C. is the one who helped me out on this when I had this same problem.

Frank C. IS THE MAN !!!

Tell me if you want to get rid of your old prop.

Ranman - confirming what Chris said. Your old prop is a solid hub prop that was standard a few years ago (like on mine). Just go to a Merc dealer and get a new thrust washer (front thrust washer)to fit the new prop. That's all you need. If you mess around with props at all, you'll need the new type anyway as most props work with that thrust washer. No big deal. :)

Randy, I have the correct spacer and insert, if you want to borrow them to try your new prop before you spend money on new ones in case your prop does not work, also I have several props that you can test if you want.

All the Lab props that I have from Mercury Racing are satin finished not polished.

I spent a few summers crewing on an inboard hydroplane, they all used lab finished props. They were never shiny. I do not know why, but all the raceboats I have seen do not have polished props.. Good Luck!

Polished vs Lab Finish.

Water tends to want to hold to a smooth surface. A slightly rough surface tends to relieve the surface tension.

Thus the front of a prop should be mirror finish, while the push side is satin/stimpled.
