Well, I bought some Redline Shockproof Heavy gear lube for my older Volvo AQ200, and hope that it will run cooler, shift smoother, and have no negative side effects. I'll let you know the verdict in a couple of months.

Also, has anyone replaced the adjustment fin (right above the prop) from the bulbous, thru-hull style to a custom made, plug the hole, slimmer style? If so how does it work? What shape is recommended?

I'm using Amsoil Synthetic in my Volvo 280 and it seems to work well.

As for the trim tab, are you suggesting removing it and simply plugging the hole? Or are you looking for something to replace the exhaust-vent unit that's on your boat (made unnecessary 'cause you have through-hull pipes)? If you're replacing it, I think there are some MerCruiser tabs that have a round base to them. Might some close to fitting...

I posted a request for a tab or blank plate in the wanted section (http://206.150.187.82/ubb/Forum5/HTML/000011.html) but decided to go ahead and get one from Wheel and Rudder Marine (http://www.volvopentaparts.com) for $35. Talk to Mike and tell him that you want one of the same ones that he got for me.
