How is it some of you are able to ONLY spend no more than $ 125 for a nice prop ?? Where?? Ebay ??

Maybe we could start our own " propswap" section ??

I would use a charge card in case a prop is misrepresented.
Your local prop shop should have some used ones also.

Hi Stan, I have a 3blade Stilletto stainless 14x25x23pitch, Im getting ready to put on Ebay? This prop is almost new, bought it in August, sold my 16 in Jan with stock prop,
kept the stilletto for a spare to my 22 doesn't work ! So if you have a Alpha 1 Mercruiser, this prop is the same as a Lazer for half the price and I'll take 150. Soon I will have another prop a 15x24pitch Bravo 1 prop for sale !

RE: 1990 18 2+3 Merc/Alpha 250 HP two barrel carb

I am just starting to reprop this boat ( quite frankly, I'm clueless in this area )

I know its a mix and match process but do you feel that this prop would work well on my boat ?

Stan,
I'm thinking you need a 14.75 X 21. You should have the standard 1.5 ratio drive gear. If so, the 21 is the stadard to start at. If you have the higher gear ratio, 1.68, which was standard on the 305 Mercs, you might want a 22 or 23. To my knowledge, a 22 can be had on a chopper prop, which ran pretty good on my 1.68 Alpha One.
Frank's Stiletto would work on a 1.50 drive with the HP to push it. Changing over to a four barrel carb might get a few more HP at higher RPM, but would probably need a camshaft change to really come alive. Then you have to worry about four bolt mains or two bolt mains for bottom end longevity, you're going to need it to survive your newly found HP.
I had a 305 2BBL using the 1.68 drive, with the 22 chopper, the revs were a bit high (5100) but the boat did a solid 56 MPH. So maybe with your higher HP 350, a 23 would push that baby just where you want it. Of course, this is with the 1.68 gear ratio.
Have I been rambling?
1.50 Ratio: 14x21
1.68 Ratio: 14x22/23

Hi Stan. Yes The prop I have is a right hand . I kept the prop for a spare for my 22? On my 16 with an Alpha gen 2 drive 1.50 gears the prop worked well! Took my 16 classic with a vortech v/6 to 60mph. I tried a Mercruiser Lazer that sold for 550 and the Stilletto did a better job for 350. This prop was only used 1 running month and is in Great condition. What drive do you have ? We tried the prop on my couisins 22 Scarab with a 350 mag Alpha. When I first bought it he had a 21pitch Quicksilver, 61 at 5200 rpm. He tried the Stilletto 64 at 5000 rpm. He was going to buy one? but sold the boat instead! Hated how cheap the boat was built.. Like Gene says your gear ratio is Important 1.5 and if you can keep the rpms in the band you want? The price is firm at 150. Seeing what out there for that price, Im looking for a 15/30pitch now Bravo 1 factory finish at 1200 Geez.... I need a Bayliner?? Thats for Geno!

Frank,

I would like to buy your prop…….one problem….mine is a left hand setup !! $#@&^%
I assume (?) that this won’t work on my boat. Unless someone has a suggestion to make this work, without a lot of modifications ????

Anyway..thank you for the offer but I guess I’m gonna have to pass on the prop.

Thanks again

Stan…….
