value on an older boat is hard to say, but that is more for resale value not replacement value, I would insure for an amount that will get you into a replacement model readily available, so I would look at a mid to late 90's 18 in mint condition and insure for that amount.

ok, let me take another stab at it, a 60's vintage 18 2+ 3 in good shape worth between 8k and 12k original working condition resale the triple hatch maybe another 3-5k for rarity now do a deck off restore put 8-10k into the boat plus your time and effort another 3-5k right? so take the high values 12+5+10+5=32k isn't that in the nieghborhood of a 97-99 22 classic in mint condition, I don't see many 60's vintage boats for that amount? again my point if it is destroyed what is the replacement cost, then you argue the collectible and sentimental value with the insurance co.

Just to keep the thread going etc.: Recently purchased a 1991 18 (2+3) with perhaps under 250 hours total time with trailer and accessories for $10K - NADA value about the same !

My 1968 18 is valued at $32,000. It all depends on the survey.
