Didn't we see this boat before??
Maybe it was on the original board?

Remember scanned pics don't have the detailed resolution... if you like the boat get real and current photos and if you still like it then go look at it.

I believe the boat is registered in Ohio.

Peter, that sweet 16 on Ebay is an hour from my house, I was in the city where the boat was for a hockey tournament this weekend, but things happen (beer) and I never made it to see the boat. I do know this about it though, it's been for sale for almost 2 years, the current owner spent way too much money on an engine mod. 2 years ago, and he hasn't even broken it in yet, he told me that the neutral indicator (???) needs to be replaced, or a foot throttle would solve the problem, I think the he meant it won't idle in neutral, without blipping the throttle, he also said that the gimble boot is leaking, and the gas-tank has never been replaced. When I talked to him last fall he was willing to take $7500.00 Canadian for the boat, his opening bid on Ebay is $7000.00 US, (roughly $10,500.00 Canadian) If any one is really interested, let me know, and I can take a drive up to Kingston, for a closer look, and pictures.

FYI.
That new Donzi 16 for sale on EBAY is NOT a 1966. Check out the transom!

The other problem ! Way to much power for a 16, Before she even sees 80 you will loose it ! My 16 would see 60 and chine walk. The bottom wouldn't touch the water ! Thats were 2ft from a 16 to a 18 make a Big difference! And if he has ohours I dont think he saw 80 ?

What are the positives/negatives to switching to a Mercruiser drive, and leaving the left hand steering in place.

The Ebay seller isn't the owner, so he doesn't know anything about it, but I'll bite, what year is it GeneD.

Hey Boxy thanks for the reply. I am not interested in this boat but found it unique that it had that much HP. I am a new Donzi owner as of February. I purchased a 1998 22 classic with a 502 and am itching for the weather to warm. Once I get some time in the boat I am sure I will have all kinds of questions.
Boxy you wouldn’t be a Red Wings fan by chance?

I grew up loving the Bruins, liking the Wings, and hating the Habs. I'm a true Sens fan now, but you've got to love Stevie Y. I just got back from playing in a hockey tournament with Kenn "the Rat" Linesman's brother. That is the one great thing about Canada in the Spring, boating all day, and Stanley Cup playoffs at night.

Boxy sounds like you may have played a year or two with the company you are keeping. I have the opportunity to watch allot of young College Canadian players being 25 miles from Bowling Green University and have been to four Red Wings this year which is about an hour and a half away. You probably have been boating already this year I need a little of that sunshine before I will get out.

No boating yet, I wish. The ice just came off the river this weekend, it's a good thing the playoffs run into June. I think a guy from my home town played for Bowling Green a few years ago, Bill Rathwell ??

The rounded hull at the stern does not necessarily make it a certain year. My '67 16' has the same rounded hull, as do most Classics...regardless of their year. I think the sharp V stern is rare, and only on a few of the mid to late 60's models. Who else has a sharp V stern...and what year is your boat?

Tony,
I'm rethinking my evaluation. If it were an eighteen we were talking, I would definintely say it was NOT a '66. But a sixteen? I'm not the expert on that. Forrest has one, how about big man, any thoughts?
But when I mentioned the transom, I was refering to the deck cap and the way it meets the hull. Straight across. I thought the older ones, including the sixteen, had a barrelback, where the gunwale molding followed the curve of the barrelback.
What do you think?

Unlike the 18 foot the old 16 foot boats had the straight across transom. I was in about 72 that the 18 went to the straight across but the 16 was always like that.

That boat has all the same stuff my '67 did. The vent above the transom, the split spoke steering wheel and the wide guage panel.

As far as I know those are 60's vintage items.

I was just looking at http://www.boattraderonline.com/search/index.shtml and noticed a few late Donzi 16 & 18 footers listed.I Also saw a Sutphen Grand Sport (copy of a Donzi Hull). I am not interested in purchasing this boat but was wondering if it has any connection to Donzi?

Just a little follow up FYI on that 16 on EBAY, the owner has re-listed it in the Eastern Ontario Boat Trader, and he's now asking $8000.00 CND, which is roughly $1700.00 USD less than his opening bid on EBAY. I think $4600.00 USD will buy this boat. If you search www.trader.ca (http://www.trader.ca) webpage you should be able to find it.

Not that I am interested in this thing but, why would an advertised price equivalent to $1700 USD require $4600 USD to purchase?

boxy
05-03-2000, 02:50 PM
He orginally was asking $7000.00 US on ebay, he's now asking $8000.00 CND in the trader. $8000.00 CND is roughly $5300.00 USD, or $1700.00 USD less than he originally wanted. You could probably buy it for less than $7000.00 CND, or approx. $4600.00 USD.
Man, this US/Canadian thing is giving me a headache.

PS: in re-reading Paulo's response, I now get the feeling that it may have been a shot at our poor beat up dollar. That makes me so mad it's going to take a couple of beers just to calm me down. It's a good thing I can buy real beer, and not colored water, or I really be ticked off. http://206.150.187.82/ubb/biggrin.gif

No, No, Boxy, never would I insult our Northern friends or their currency. It was my mis-interpretation and lack of knowledge of the exchange rate. I took it as:

Advertised at $1700. Which is less than his original.... Not; $1700 less than his original....

No worries Paulo, I was sure you weren't insulting us, and to tell the truth some days our currency does deserve a kick in the teeth.
