I am insuring my Z25 and the insurer, Boats US, insists on a marine survey.
I must use their recomended surveyors.
I was just given a minimum cost of $400.
Is this in line with what other Donzi owners have seen?
Your answers are appreciated.

You should be able to do a little better. Make sure who ever you call that all you want is an insurance inspection which usualy runs about half of a pre-purchase which runs $12-18 per foot. Most insurance companies require certified surveyors, you can do a search on the sites below to find numbers in your area.

Get a price from state farm first. You might try a rider on your home owners policy too.I got a great deal.Depending on how old your boat is a survey may not be reguired.

I used http://www.skisafe.com/boat2.htm
partly because they didn"t require a survey.

I use Allstate In Illinois, They did not require a survey on my 86 Z29. They had the best price also.

Thanks everyone ..I am tied into Boat US as they insure the boat now. They do have quite the guide lines for the survey.
After reading all their requirements I see why its $400 to do one.
This does make the end cost for my insurance a lot higher and something one should consider when pricing.

I also had to have a certified surveyor check things out when i insured my 31' silverton 3 years ago. $12 per foot, and he did a very good job. He even cut me a break, because he knew the boat was 34' long, but it's still called 31'. He charged me for 31'. I wasn't thrilled about having to get the survey done, but after he gave me his detailed report, he pointed out a few things i should address which i would have missed, as i had never had a boat this big before. He even put a value on the boat, which came out 15,000 more than i paid for it. Yep got a good deal. That took a lot of the sting out of the survey $$$$. Shop around, you should be able to get a better price......use the links that MOP suggested.....thats how i found my guy.
