Wanting to put a 390 in my Hornet and finding ANY manifolds for less than 2200.00 I'm going to fab them myself,,,my starting idea is to make the flange off the head from 3/8 316 plate, 2 to 3'' primaries into a common collector. How will I achieve a decient flow ?? Should I introduce the flow straight in or at a 45 ?? Should the collector be 3 or 4'' ?? Do I need to jacket the pimary's being that short? Any input will be great.

Have you tried Glenwood. there manifolds are the log style and were around when the fe ford engines were popular and were still in the last catalog I recieved from them

No I haven't ,,,do you know how I can contact them ??? I don't mind paying a reasonable price for these, the 2200 I was quoted I though was outrtageous for a log manifold and set of risers that I can make over a weekend

Gary,
If you choose the Log style here is a picture of the Glenwood polished alum for $465 for the pair plus you need the risers for another $450 or so for the pair. You may be better off trying to find some Ford non-log manifold/risers for better air flow though.....

Another thing is you always need to run a water-jacketed exhaust system in an enclosed engine compartment. Don’t be fooled by the water injected headers that look great and are a lot cheaper but they need to be in an open engine bay area.

Gary,
You may want to ask The Big Grizzly on that one since he is a big Ford man.

I'm not too sure about Indmar with their products but they sell the normal style manifold/risers for sbf & bbf at CP Performance (http://www.cpperformance.com) for a decent price:

The small block won't fit the 390cid. The Center riser are a much better than the the log type. But if you can't get them anyone is good. After the first post I looked around and it seams people forgot this engine is alive. If it were me I would look at OSCO prodcts. they are a cast iron foundry . the manafolds are heavy but good.

Back in tht era of the FE ford engines i do not recall any center risers for them. Most marine motors had log style. You might try pollishing the insides and a bit of port work on them. Usally helps alot. The log style were the norm back then. Good luck

Oh one other thing the FE heads have two bolt patterns on the exhaust its been awhile dont rember witch cars had witch but you want the vertical ones. the service heads had both patterns. Dont use truck 361 heads the valve train is weak. lf your not ehure what you have I havemost of the part #s forr any of te older ford motors.

Thanks for the input,,,Osco is a dead end. The trird lead they put me onto makes everything custom and isn't worth the money, I can't see spending over 2 grand on the exaust when I can get a pretty good, complete 454 for less money.

The OSCO catalogue shows part number for the log type FG818 whichfits the 352/361/390/406/427/428 engines or you can make a 3/8->1/2 adapter to make a nother 4 inlet marine hedder work. I did this to my cleveland becaise the bolts are almost impomssibre to get to. the price on each loge was 198 each than you add the elbows etc. My Clevland set ended up costing about $750->$800 when it was all done. Then I bough a set of custom MI for it. still have the Osco sitting in the basment incase I get another Clevland boat or Dyno another motor.
