Is there a benefit of thru-hull exhaust with a V6? I was told it would not sound right. Is this true? Who sells this kit?

I had thrull hull exhaust tips with mufflers (Corsa) on my 1999 Classic 16 with V6 motor. Sounded just great! The mufflers in the tips don't hurt your horsepower significantly, offer a required amount of back pressure, and they provide a little extra protection from back wash. Open V6 exhausts sound raspy. Like an ugly dog you love and just have to get used to. Muffled tips provide a sportscar sound.

Marcdups,
Considering the long rich history of VW engines, and Donzi's, I'm willing to bet that SOMEBODY has tried it. Maybe I'll pull the engine out of my '01 Porsche 996GT racer and try that in a sweet sixteen. Ya know, for only $200K you could get a new Porsche GT2 and strip the 462hp Twin turbo 6 cylinder out of THAT and put it in a 16. Has anyone tried a 12cyl Lamborghini engine in their Sweet 16, yet? It would look real cool sticking out forward through the bulkhead of the rear seats.

Actuaally, I do believe there are plenty of hop up parts out there for 6's, but most of them are for cars, not boats. There used to be a company called Clifford Research that had the motto "6=8" and developed all kinds of stuff for those who wanted to heat up their 6 cyl.
The new 2002 4.3L Mercruiser V6 comes in a 220hp variant this year. Let's see, same output as a 305 V8 and 300 pounds lighter, plus a heck of a lot more room to spare in front of it, better gas mileage, runs great on 87 octane. Hmmmm. Maybe a swap would be better than a modification. How expensive could the engine be?

I do not plan to modify the powerplant, just the exhaust and tune it up.

In my SCCA racing career I've seen V6's kick the **** of V8's in GT1 (tube frame camaros, mustangs). National Champion in GT1 in 2000 drove a V6, its all power to weight. All the Busch series cars ran V6s.The flat 6 in my GT-2 911 sounds killer. Go for it!

Rick,
You have to admit back when Busch ran the V6’s they sounded like a swarm of bees buzzing by you.

Ah, that V8 sound biggrin.gif
