Yeah... the early ones. I mean the really early ones. I believe the original Donzis 64 or 65ish came standard with Eatons. Not a very reliable drive and thus many folks replaced them with Volvos. Other experts here will give you the exact info.

If it's an Eaton on a Donzi, it's most likely the original drive. The drive is a bit tough to see, but I've attached a pic of an Eaton boat for your viewing pleasure.

No clue what years Donzi used the Eatons, there was abunch of Eatons around in the sixties and some lived until the mid eighties. If you cool them and don't push them they will hang on for a pretty good while.

According to Brownie, I beleive it's the 1st 50 or 60 16's that had Eaton's.
Does the boat have "clamshell" vents on the rear deck?

Eatons were used through 1966 with SB Fords. According to Roy Farmer, at Donzi, when I spoke to him in 1978; he said if it has an Eaton, it's probably within the first 100 boats.

ok guys just some info here,we just popped the deck on my boat which had a 289 ford and eaton drive replaced by Holman Moody in feb 0f 1969 with a 351 windsor and a h/m tagged volvo 250 b drive( have the original h/m registration and work order with the owners name on it which is also stamped on the engine tag)
the hull number 16-410 the date on the tank dec of 1966, I have the original 3 spoke slotted donzi marine wheel,2 clam shell vent , air register, in seat, no battery box in the back seat. so mine is a 67 we think.

Matty, your description fits my boat exactly, I guess it should since my hull is #16420. So you are right, you probably have a '67.

I am now pulling for your Flyers since the Wings hit the golf courses early this year! The 'Lanch didn't last much longer, leaving the West pretty wide open. As usual, some great hockey being played this time of the year...I just love the intensity, not to mention overtime games.
