Is it safe to use an automotive coil in a marine application if you silicone where the metal canister meets the top of the coil?

Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that there is no difference between an automotive ignition coil and a marine ignition coil.

Marine coil costs more.
I would agree with Forrest.

As usual Forrest you are correct. When I had asummer job at delco testing ignition components the parts were the same. At least back then.

This is true, the marine usually costs about 33% more than the auto.
But...
The marine normally has brass fittings as the auto does not.
Also, there is the "external resistor" issue to deal with. I prefer the "internal resistor" types as I just don't want to deal with another wire.
Also, some auto and some marine need ballast resistors to work properly, need to check your manual or the coil(?).
Either way, they both perform the same function in the same way, and give out the same voltages. Just got to watch the corrosion on the auto types.
This is from personal experience and not to be confused with some type of formal training I am lacking in!
