Went out today to install depth finder and noticed
a sound like my bilge was running. It was coming from the starter. I put a little pressure on the starter and it stopped. The only difference today
from the past was the temp. outside was in the
30's last night and 40's today. Rotated ignition
switch and spinning sound did not quit until I
put on the pressure. Any ideas?

Jack, hope you and the family are doing great and happy 2002, Here shovelling s#!^, snow (sorry), stater may be loose or a connection, other than that a short but then that should not stop the buzz, maybe someone has a better idea!!

BTW I would like to get your exhaust measurements from the gimble housing up and across, thanks

Jack, clarify please......pressure on the starter
or the key swich?.....unless your built different
than the last time I saw you....it's really
hard to turn the key and apply pressure to the
starter. OK so I'm a smart ass tonight.....
but really...please clarify a little
I have an idea what it might be.

Ted,
I turned the ignition switch to start for a second.
The spinning sound was still present.
Then I reached down and put a little pressure
on the starter and it stopped.

marc,
Will measure from the top of outdrive to bottem of deck and distance between exhaust. Will e-mail
a picture with numbers.

Jack,
I beleive you have a bad ignition swich....
maybe coincidence that it stopped just when you
applied pressure to the starter......or
does it stop and start every time you
push on the starter consistantly?

Ted,
After a short time I applied pressure on the starter and it started to sound like it was spinning. Not enough to engage the starter but
a slow spinning sound. Then about an hour later
after drilling a hole in the dash for the depth gauge, I put pressure on the starter again and
no sound. Will try again in the morning when I
finish the wiring of gauge.

I thought it might be moisture in the ignition
switch. Shorting just enough current to the solenoid to just spin a little until I put pressure on it and force it to stop.
