Returned last week from the 2002 Donzi Dealer Conference, lots of big news this year!!

Donzi had one of the 2002 22 Classic Special Edition 500HP there at the show. The boat is beautiful and I had the pleasure of riding in it several times during the show. Donzitester took my dad and I out on the first day and we easily broke 75-MPH, driving conservatively. The boat has tons of power and acceleration and runs fast with very little trim. It’s definitely a drivers boat and sure does get your attention when that 500HP fires up.

Donzi had great news on the F2 Program. The F2 prototype has been in the water and is showing some great results. The prototype is currently 1-MPH off the current F2 speed record. One of the test drivers claims he has several more things to try on the boat and expects even more speed. Donzi feels the boat will be out in public view in 60-90 days.

Also, I hope Mike Miller doesn’t get mad at me for letting the “CAT” out of the bag but Donzi is working on plans to go after Skater. Donzi and an outside engineering firm are working on plans for a 36’ & 40’ Cat to kick Skaters booty.

Mercruiser has a new extension box coming out for the Bravo-1 XR drive. The new box has integrated steering built into the box that eliminates the need for aftermarket hydraulic steering. It’s a nice looking unit and is very compact. I have to wonder what effect it would have if put on a Classic.

Donzi had some great stuff at the Conference. I didn’t think they could top last years 38 Daytona with 575 SCi’s but they did. This year they had a beautiful 33 Daytona with twin 575 SCi’s and also a 45 ZX with triple 575 SCi’s. Man could those boats run, both boats could break 90-MPH and give you the thrill of your life. Tuesday my dad and I went out in the Gulf with the 33 and one of the test drivers. The ride blew me away and after about 20 minutes I didn’t know if I could hang on much longer, since I stood up in the back and did all I could to hang on. The seas were fairly calm, maybe 3’-4’, but man we were catching some air. It was difficult to tell our speed since the boat kept coming out of the water but I do remember seeing 75-MPH on the speedo. Donzi also had Bob Teague there again this year. Although he drove several boat during the show he gave my wife and I a great ride in the 45 ZX. I still can’t believe a boat that big can jump out of the water like that.

It was a great Conference, thanks to Donzi and the Miller brothers for putting on a great show.

That new 22 is one sweet ride! The question is, how much will the thing sell for? Any ideas?

Hmmmmm, is a 25' cat with a 575 in my future? A donzi cat, that is sweet.

What is the top speed of the 500hp special edition. I remember seeing a post here a while back from donzitester that said it was 76.6 or so. I thought it would be faster. Anyone know?

WOW, The Special Edition 22 is one special Classic. I don't even care how fast it is. She is beautiful and those who purchase her will have one of the best looking boats on the water. Beth, did we win the lottery yet? :)

The Special Edition 22 should run in the upper 70-MPH range. Donzitester took us for a ride but admited he'd not had much time in the boat. The boat was running close to 75-MPH with almost no trim, the thing really scoots along. From what I hear Donzi is expecting the 500HP to push the boat 7-8 MPH faster than a 496 c.i. boat.

I sure wish I could have gotten a better picture of the engine compartment. Unfortunately the picture came out pretty dark.

The boat comes as is, no add-ons or subtractions. The hull and deck have an extra layer of glass and the deck is bonded to the hull with adhesive and fiberglass. It also includes Latham steering, baby K-Planes, custom gages and additional grab handles (I can't understand why  ). The Special Edition Package adds over 30K to the price of a regular 22 Classic. I've seen the dealer cost and would expect them to sell for around 80K. I got mixed answers on if it is a limited build, I don't believe it is, therefor if you want one they'll build it. There was also a second one going down the line at the factory.

Scubado, the winshield on the 26 has been available for a while. I think it's available on all ZX's accept maybe for the 22. It really gived the boat a different look.

Well, according to the "new" Donzi website a 22 classic with a 502 will run 76-79 mph! So add 7-8 to that and you have 83-87 mph. Why would they advertise that on their website? I thought that Donzitester resigned from Donzi?

Tried to brighten it up a little. This is the best I could do. I hope that I post it right!!! Man that is a sweeeet looking motor.

Donzitester told me he was there at the show just to help drive the boats. I certainly wouldn't pass up a chance to drive the boats.

I would not be surprised to see this boat push 80-MPH. We were running such a small amount of trim at 75-MPH that I would expect there would be more speed in the boat. In the right conditions speeds in the lower 80's might be possible.

They should have called me. I would have been happy to "help out" and test drive the boats. :D :D :D

Donzitester, glad to hear you got 85 out of yours! That's awesome. Wasn't that your goal? Got any pics of it all put together? If you do, e-mail them to me again and I will post them for you.

Next time, give me a call and I'll help drive the boats so you don't have to "suffer" as much! :D

I have not run it yet, "will" meaning that
I will do what ever it takes till I get there
I beleive it will run 82-83 on the first run.
Then I will put on the Imco shorter lower,
good for 4-5 MPH. It will spin a 3 blade mirage+ 29 lab as is now. I'll let you all
know how the first run goes ;)

I have been attempting to make a deal on hull number one used at the dealer show for several weeks now. I have had several 500HP powered boats over the years and it is an awesome engine package. The boat does have the right stuff with the right equipment and great looks to go with it, but at almost double the price of my brand new 2001 502 boat and no room to move on pricing, I am out. At these prices, there are several 27-29 500HP offshore boats available. Somebody out there, buy one, so I can work with you in a year or two on a used one if you ever get tired of it!!!!!!
Donzitester. Keep us posted on your the results of your 500HP project. I will most likely go this direction on my own or do a whipple charger, before AOTH2, for half the price or less.
Bummed in Texas, but we'll get there one way or another. Trying to satisfy our need for more speed!!!!!!!! Todd and Jill

Donzitester, guess I misunderstood the "will". Keep us posted on how it runs. After seeing the pics of your boat I've started making a list for my own "limited edition" for my winter project! :D But, it looks like I might have to get a second job! How long did you work for Donzi?
