Returned last week from the 2002 Donzi Dealer Conference, lots of big news this year!!
Donzi had one of the 2002 22 Classic Special Edition 500HP there at the show. The boat is beautiful and I had the pleasure of riding in it several times during the show. Donzitester took my dad and I out on the first day and we easily broke 75-MPH, driving conservatively. The boat has tons of power and acceleration and runs fast with very little trim. It’s definitely a drivers boat and sure does get your attention when that 500HP fires up.
Donzi had great news on the F2 Program. The F2 prototype has been in the water and is showing some great results. The prototype is currently 1-MPH off the current F2 speed record. One of the test drivers claims he has several more things to try on the boat and expects even more speed. Donzi feels the boat will be out in public view in 60-90 days.

Also, I hope Mike Miller doesn’t get mad at me for letting the “CAT” out of the bag but Donzi is working on plans to go after Skater. Donzi and an outside engineering firm are working on plans for a 36’ & 40’ Cat to kick Skaters booty.

Mercruiser has a new extension box coming out for the Bravo-1 XR drive. The new box has integrated steering built into the box that eliminates the need for aftermarket hydraulic steering. It’s a nice looking unit and is very compact. I have to wonder what effect it would have if put on a Classic.

Donzi had some great stuff at the Conference. I didn’t think they could top last years 38 Daytona with 575 SCi’s but they did. This year they had a beautiful 33 Daytona with twin 575 SCi’s and also a 45 ZX with triple 575 SCi’s. Man could those boats run, both boats could break 90-MPH and give you the thrill of your life. Tuesday my dad and I went out in the Gulf with the 33 and one of the test drivers. The ride blew me away and after about 20 minutes I didn’t know if I could hang on much longer, since I stood up in the back and did all I could to hang on. The seas were fairly calm, maybe 3’-4’, but man we were catching some air. It was difficult to tell our speed since the boat kept coming out of the water but I do remember seeing 75-MPH on the speedo. Donzi also had Bob Teague there again this year. Although he drove several boat during the show he gave my wife and I a great ride in the 45 ZX. I still can’t believe a boat that big can jump out of the water like that.
It was a great Conference, thanks to Donzi and the Miller brothers for putting on a great show.
