I’m sure this is an easy question but I was wandering if someone could tell me what octane gas I should be using in my 1997 22'(Stock 454 Magnum) Classic. I was looking for a maintenance document on the web but was unable to come up with anything. Also what oil do you prefer to use and how often do you like to change it. And any other maintenance info you would suggest to a Donzi novice. I would just prefer to do it right the first time. Thanks for any help :)

Ooooh nooooo, he asked about oil...

Politics and religion are far safer topics around here!

Bunches,

Celene 'if it were a 454 truck, I'd say just use the regular nice brand cheap fuel... interested in what the pros think...'

I use the high octane in my 502mag (92 - 93 octane) seems to run good on that. I have allways used the Mercuy recommended oil they sell and change every 40-50 hours. Like you I would be interested in hearing what other guys suggest.

you'll get a thousand answers on oil preferences, just pick a good one and change it regularly. My favorite is Amsoil.

My book says to use regular unleaded in my 502 MAG MPI. It's all I've ever used and I've never had a problem. We address this topic at least once a year, :) here's one thread.

As far as the oil issue goes, that one comes up more often. Just search for oil and you'll see.

Phil,

Thanks for the post on octane, I have allways used the high octane, I will have to try reg unleaded. I hate to think I have been paying 10 cent a gallon for less proformance. :o

There was a great post awhile back about GAS! It kind of proved running Hi Test was not as good as alot of us thought, it can actually cost you HP. 89 seems to be the best all around. I put a few gallons of HT in the first spring tank then go right to the 89. OIL OH NO NOT AGAIN! What ever was typed above works!
