Does anyone know if the 16' OB used the same
mold as the 16' I/O other than transom mods. I am curious if the OB had the hook in the rear of the hull as the I/O did? Does anyone know? and was there a period of time when the hook was not in any of the 16's. This info will help in identification of a "new" project I might have located...

I am not sure but I'll bet someone will respoond very soon with the facts. However, if nobody responds, which I highly doubt, I will take some pictures of an older 16 OB I have been keeping and eye on. ;)
It could be anywhere from a 1980-1985, light blue, and has not moved from a trailer in 5 years. It is not being covered or anything. The gel looks like it would come back though.

Here's something fun, what lind of top end performance can I squeaze out of that hull with the right OB? Not really concerned with coast gurad maximums. This is coming from a guy who owns a 1971 13' Boston Whaler bolted to a 60 hp shortshaft mariner w/ trim.

JP, if you're going to show us pretty women, then there better be a donzi in the back ground somewhere........ ;)

All the 16's have hooks. I would pray an Outboard 16 had a hook.

It does have a hook on the top steps just like tje i/o. Rember it was rated for 135 Hp and needed the hook to plane off. at high speed it wasn't in the water much.

Hi Len. I have a 72 16 OB,hull# C16 B-7. The hull looks identical to the I/O models and definitely has the hook. I read somewhere in the registry that the OB's were only made in 72-74. I currently have a 72 Merc 150 hp and the boat will do 50-51 mph (speedo reading). I am going to go with a new 175 Evinrude in the summer of 2002.

The boat has all of the same handling issues discussed here including the tendancy to fall off to the left. Kids think its great -wife doesn't. I bought the boat, motor and trailer after seeing it in boat trader magazine.

Good luck.

For those lurkers out there wondering what a hook is, here's a fine example.

They are built in to improve low speed handling and the ability to quickly plane with an
I/O where all the weight is near the transom. Above 50 MPH its a drag and a real limiter to top speed.

OWEN,... FJ...

Why are you not in the Puget Sound and/or San Juan's, Roche Harbour, Friday Harbour, Pender Island, Galiano, Mayne or Ganges??? I thought you were up in the San Juans today/this weekend boating? (never asked me to attend!, but Hey!!!no hard feelings, I'll get over it before my fourth re-incarnation.) Let me know when you are this way and I'll steer you clear of "BAD THINGS" in our waters and we can go see Bill Garden on Deer Island while your here.

Len, I've had everything set up for heading up north three times. Eachtime something got in the way. I'll post in the events forum when I can nail something down that will stay nailed down. If anything - I'm the one getting invited up there by the local donzi contingent. I looked at the maps for this weekend and they said RAIN. The problem with that whole area, as you know, is the actual weather rarely matches what the weather guy says...who knows far less than the locals. You all have to be the eyes and ears on this. Tell me when your gut says its going to be nice. The Sound is one of the few places I truely FEAR if conditions get bad. I've had a lot of experience on the Chesapeak and many, many inland lakes, but the Sound is a Harsh Mistress, giving no quarter to mistakes........In other words the Sound is out of my league. Yes, I need a co-pilot.

Hopping waves and SURVIVNG is a rythmn thing. I would LUV to be a CO-PILOT (if the oppotunity arises) NOTHING HERE is going to KILL YOU, but be smart and play the game. Call me or e-mail me when you are coming up. Oh, and by the way, right now it is SUNNY AND CLEAR, NO CLOUDS, no wind...anywhere, 6:00PM YOUR TIME!!!

I know,...I'm looking at it in the HARO STRAIT as well as the GEORGIA and JUAN de FUCA!!!

Sorry for all all the exclamation marks and capitals,..but I am pumped and would love to meet an OCEAN boater...( or wanna be)

LENNY!!!
