How do I tell what ignition module is in my boat, I need to know if has the 24 degree advance or? So I can set my intial timing, my timimg light reads advance so I can accurately tell what my intial timing is.

Where is the module located and do I identify it by a serial number? Do I just trace the wires from my dist till they lead to the module?

I could just put in the water and run it at 4,000 RPM and see what the total advace is, but I hate the idea of running a engine in neutrel at that RPM while I fumble around with a timing light, right now I have the intial timing @ 10 degress BTDC

Power is a Mercruiser Performance Series 430hp 454cu HO The engine is rebuilt and balanced and blueprinted to stock specs

Is it a Thunderbolt IV ignition (what year? the Thunderbolt IV has one solid state unit on the distributor, the Thunderbolt V has 2, the extra is for the knock sensor)

Post the #s on the module.

When setting total advance the advance should stop climbing around 3000rpms.
