or any other know-it-alls :)
Last Fall I experienced a loss of water level accident - also know as a LOWLA or Ah S#*@! Result was a broken skeg and trashed prop. Prop is fixed. I pulled the drive, split the upper gear housing from the lower, carried lower to the shop and had a new skeg welded on. All good so far and now I am ready to reinstall the drive.
So here is the question - Can I install the upper gear housing on the boat first and then bolt on the lower? Seems this would be easiest considering how heavy the drive is when both upper and lower are together. My Clymers manual says to bolt the upper and lower together first but I can see no real reason to require this.
