Would a Jeep wrangler work as a short distance tow vehicle for a 18 classic?

I am lookat one to pull my boat to the ramp and back. The ramp is about 3 miles from the house.

Anyone have personal experience with this?

Scot,

The only thing I would be concerned about is your ramp itself. It is a little steep, you may have to use four wheel drive. Other than that you shouldn't have any problems. What's wrong with using that nice Ford truck we used that day? Selling it?

If it's got the 4.0L, you'll be fine. I wouldn't go long distances or on the highway though with that short wheelbase. If the Jeep has the 4 cyl. it will struggle quite a bit.

My first boat was a 22' ROBALO center console and it was a tank and I used a Wrangler to tow it. I always used 4WD on the ramp and it had plenty of power with the 4.0L. However stopping was an entirely different animal!!!! Just be careful wink

Nothing new, just another vote for OK. Don't tow far or fast. The short wheelbase could be dangerous at higher speeds.

My 97 4.0 Wrangler was built like a tank and would pull/yank just about anything. Especially stuck Range Rovers!

I used my 1998 4.0 TJ to tow my 18 on several long trips (300+ miles). Worked fine.

I own a 01 wrangler 6 cyl. and it tows my 18 fine but just to let you know the towing rating on this vehicle is only 2000 lbs. and your boat weighs about 2800lbs.

I tow my 18 with my real used 4.0 Jeep, never had a problem, starts every day with 200K+ miles, the interior is a little froggy though.
