I know this topic might seem lame to many of you here but on Tuesday afternoon I get my first chance to go OFFSHORE!!!( I mean the real offshore.) Unfortunately it will be in a SCARAB and not a DONZI but a half dozen of us in the Strait in a 38' with 3 fresh OPTIMAX 250HP Merc Outboards on a bracket has got to be fun! Yee-ha! The best part is it is very windy here, sunny and large waves. It should hold for tomorrow as well. Going across the Strait to a pub and back (hopefully) http://www.donzi.net/ubb/eek.gif Any advice from the veterans?

Hang on tight! I remember taking that huge ship-like ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria and watching a 35+ foot Scarab get bounced around like a cork in bathtub, less than a half mile offshore. The Strait of Jaun de Fuca is some serious water, bud, but it ought to be a fun ride! I just ran an 80-mile round trip to the annual Memorial Day weekend Dog Island party in the Magnum 27 in the Gulf on Saturday through 1- to 2-foot seas in the morning turning to 3- to 5-foot with an occasional 6-footer in the afternoon. We were soaked!

Ahhhhh...now that was fun! Not enough of a sea tho. Things were quite tame Forrest. Small white caps on 2-3' rollers. Only minimal air time. One thing I did learn tho was that 70mph in a 38 footer is nothing like 70mph in a small boat. This thing was way to smooth, comfortable and controlled. I would have loved an extra 30 mph.

I'm hooked!!! http://www.donzi.net/ubb/smile.gif http://www.donzi.net/ubb/smile.gif http://www.donzi.net/ubb/smile.gif ...too bad I can't afford a 38 footer...and $60,000 in engines...
