I'm looking to buy a sweet 16 & have two identified. One is a '95 with Merc, the other is a '90 with an OMC. Both are 4.3 L engines & in great shape.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Also, I've never run one of these and was wondering how they compare with an 18 in terms of the feel & handling of the boat in a chop.

Thanks very much.

If you go with the 90 check and see if the Spitfire Ign has been replaced with a dist. If not it will run you around $500 to get it changed when the SF takes a powder. I chased dropped cylinders all last summer with that ign system. No dealer ever bought the test instrument to see which piece is bad. Moot point as OMC (before death) didn't have any of the parts!!

I purchased a 96' 16' with a 4.3l LX GEN +.
It runs according to speedometer 54 with a
full tank and two onboard. RPMS run 44-46.
23 pitch Mirage. I love the thing. The 16' has a tendency to porpoise at around 30 mph,
but can be controlled with trim and speed.
If you get this thing porpoising good and
give it some gas it will fill like it is going to stand up. We refer to this Donzi
Dancing. The 18' from what I have been told
handles better, but it was always my
dream to have a 16' classic. I would probably
go for the 95', this was after the OMC years.

I have had a 16 since november and love it, with a 4.3 HO merc and do get 57.4 on gps at 5200 rpm's, boat handles well, I did install trim tabs for porposing but otherwise I turn all heads at the lake
