After much trouble shooting, deliberation, and consultation, I finally concluded that my 34 yr. old Sherwood water pump was just plain worn out. Luckily an exact replacement was found at MarineParts.com (http://www.MarineParts.com), although I was a bit dismayed at the $234 price. This was much better, though, than Sherwood's suggested retail of $415! It's listed under a Crusader application, Sherwood Pump # P10700G. Here's a picture of the old pump:

And here is the new one, in place and pumping dutifully I might add!

Tony, congrats on getting that pumped replaced. It had to be a bit un-nerving wondering if the pump was going to take prime every time you launched your baby! Sure am looking forward to boating with you again soon....Chris

The boat came that way...I can only assume that since it is a real bear to get at the quick connects makes it easy to remove and re-attach the water pump.
