So what if no one wanted to go with me...I was determined to see the Tall Ships parade out of Muskegon Lake into Lake Michigan! So I go alone and have a great day, and am docked at the Bear Lake Inn about to have a cocktail when I hear a familiar sound. :D

Motoring up the river, and while going under the bridge this engine sounds like a NASCAR engine, is a sweet looking 18' with none other than Spitfire Dave at the helm! So we introduce, have a couple drinks, and then hit the lake for a spin. For the first time I am 70+ mph on the water, and loving every minute of it! Dave's got a substantially tricked up small block Chevy, and an Alpha ss with a 23" Mirage prop. Boy does it run nice...AND FAST! Not to mention that I love the deep blue with red accenting...call me before selling.

Thanks for the ride, Dave, and it was great meeting you. Get me your e-mail address and I can send you some pictures. Here are a few for the Registry members to enjoy:

Broque,
I might not have been clear...the pictures above are of "Spitfire Dave's" 18' Donzi. My boat is pictured below, on the same day but at a different bar!
To upload photos go to this link (http://www.donzi.net/uploadphoto.cfm) and follow the directions. Then look at the UBB Code (to the left...) and see how to insert an image.

Holy crap! tony that boat is gorgeous!

did it come with the windsheild stock? or was it an aftermarket windsheild, it definately looks like60's-70's era windsheild.
is that an 18'?
if it is, its a rare one since it has the layout of a sweet sixteen.(pardon me if I am wrong but I thought they made an 18 with a sweet sixteen layout)

I love the photos but we need more ACTION SHOTS!!!!!!
to get the adrenaline pumping!!!
tony that boat looks awesome once again, it makes me think why you didnt post your pics first(must be a very modest guy)

tony, so what is under the hood?
speed?
:p we donzi freaks like to know our competition!(dont give me that not tellin crap like we are about to race) :p :D

Tony,
all those boats are beautiful, yours is very similiar to mine, is yours a 68?, I'm trying to
be able to ID them buy styling or features,
mine has the same vent setup one facing forward one one back and the dash looks the same one big gauge outside the instrument panel, I saw a 69 and it had four vents 2 forward 2 back, Tony your boat is primo, mine is damn close, the windshield is a nice touch my wife wants one!
What's under the hood
Matt

Boys, you are too kind! Thanks for the compliments...I just wish I had something to do with how it looks, other than doing my best to keep it looking that way. It is a '67 16' that I bought 3 years ago. The previous owner had it re-gelcoated about 8 years ago, and at that time also put in a 302/300hp Ford. I can do about 60 (speedo) but it gets really hairy due to the original Volvo 200 outdrive having a bit of play in it! Also, at WOT my rpm's are very high, in the upper 5k range, and since I am not very mechanical I would rather not have a major engine problem. Matty, my '67 is stock except for the 302, the captains chair, and the instruments/wiring. Also, I think the speedo is an add-on, outside of the original instrument panel.

tony, your right about the speedo being aftermarket, I dont think donzis came with speedos back then(sweets, and classics), mine has one but it is aftermarket and dont work.
WOW if your getting in the 5k rpm range with that boat you could switch the prop and get even more speed out of it(on a really calm day)-since you said it gets hairy.
regelcoated?
anyone know about regelcoating a donzi?
price?
tony would you happen to know what the old owner paid to get that done?
I havent compounded my boat in 9 years(because I am waiting for all new metal parts)-once I get all the new metal parts I am going to compund the whole boat and put the metal on all in one shot!
I think Ill take some pics of my boat today and post them on this website. frank needs them for his n/e club web site anyhow.
and since I got a half day of work today and it is beatiful out i think ill take some pictures of my little bitch! :p

I don't know how much he had to pay for the re-gelcoat job. It looks very good, though, and I get a lot of compliments. Several guys on this board says that today's re-painting process, if done right, is just as good or better than re-gel. I am no expert so I don't know, probably the re-paint is way less expensive.

I'm currently turning a 24" Volvo Ultra, and still getting high rpm's. Does that mean I need even more pitch? If I get any more speed with this hull I will need a steering system...otherwise I am flirting with disaster!
