I have recently purchased a 1993 18 Classic. The hull number is CCVDB103H293. It has a 5.8L Ford with a King Cobra outdrive. Can someone tell me how much horsepower this engine is rated at? I also hear that I should have stayed away from the King Cobra outdrive. Am I going to be in trouble? I have wanted a Donzi for as long as I can remember, I hope I didn't jump off the deep end.

Sincerely,

Brad

I personally have a '95/ 18 with an Alpha but I will say that my Dad has had a Cobra outdrive on his boat since 1988 with a million hours on it and has had zero trouble with it.

The King Cobra is a great drive.
Reddog has my 18 that had a 420HP 454 hooked up the the King Cobra.

Keep the shift cable adjusted and change lube once a year. I used OMCs HI-Vis which is their premium lubricant.

I don't know the HP but the 350s of that era had 270Crankshaft HP.

For more info do a search on the Donzi board for King Cobra.

Good Luck with your new ride :D

Congrats on the new boat, the king cobra is pretty rugged, parts are alittle hard to find, but you should be fine, enjoy, I hear the omc boats were put together pretty good.

The 5.8L Ford Marine engine is 350HP at the prop. See message under "original information" on this string for full motor specs.
