16 to 18 BTDC@idle 650RPMs
34 total w/93 octane.
Plugs fouled if timing was below 14BTDC

GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I'm not sure I understand how you could run 18 degrees intial timing, wouldn't that be way to advanced total timing which shouldn't exceed 34 degrees?
If you had a 24 degree module wouldn't that net you 42 degrees total timing?

Phil - thanks for asking; now I know. I've never been a "motor-head." Not likely to become much of one either - but then RickR is close by :D .

Genuine Trouble has an MSD ignition w/MSD distributor.
The MSD dist can be set up with different advance curves and total advance.
I'll look up the springs and bushings I used.

Thanks Rick that makes alot more sense to me, I have a stock Mercruiser ignition, not sure what module is in it, but it seems like 10 degrees intial advance is about right.

Do I identify the module by a serial number?

My valve covers say Mercrusier Performance Series, did Merc make a 420 HP engine or do I have a 454 Mag balanced and blueprinted with diff cam and pistons to get the 420 HP?
