Here's a sad, sad story for everyone....
While on the way home from a meeting with a client a few months ago, I took a detour through a small town. I looked up, and there was a Donzi 16 Ski Sporter sitting in a lot with about 5 old cars. I tracked down the boat's owner through the tax assessor's office, and was able to contact him. According to him, the boat is a 67 model - 302 Interceptor/ Volvo. It was supposed to be in solid, unmolested shape, although the deck had been separated from the hull to change the gas tank and the outdrive had been removed due to a bad bearing. Otherwise the boat was supposed to be totally complete and restorable. The price for this diamond in the rough was $750!
After a 3 1/2 hour drive to see it on Friday, I found that when the deck was lifted, instead of taking time to remove the steering and controls, they just cut the interior tub from the deck with a saw! According to the owner, it should just glass right back together! Also the outdrive, which had been removed, was also totally disassembled and left outside in the weather for about 4 years. Everything that was machined steel is now rust.
What a bummer. I've been in love with the Donzi's since I saw one for the first time.
Oh well, hopefully another will turn up eventually. Hope everyone has a good weekend.
