I need to repower my 1967 Skisporter that currently has a siezed, cracked block, original 289 Ford with Eaton/Volvo drive.
Concerning repowering, I would like good performance with top end at least 60mph. I am considering a factory rebuilt, warrantied engine. Options I am considering include another 289 Ford, 302 Ford, high performance rebuilt 289, or Chevy small blocks. What would be the largest engine the boat can accommodate concerning weight/size?

Can anyone recommend companies that sell rebuilds?

Finally, should I keep the Eaton/Volvo, or replace with Mercruiser?

All responses greatly appreciated!

When I had my 16 I repower with a 351W. Bolted right in with same mounts, as long as you don't have the oil pan set up with built in mounts 351's and 289/302's take different pans.

The Volvo drive is strong and will take the power. Lots of work to change to merc drive.

Looks more orignal with Volvo too.

Jasper makes good engines. Fred Jones use to, I don't think they are in the business anymore. Check around your area, see what is available locally too.

Good luck.
